if you order a steak order the most expensive cut it will still be as tough as shoe leather compared to US beef but believe me it will be better than the jaw ache that chewing the cheaper cuts will give you.
Are you insane? Angus Shorthorn beef steak is amongst the finest in the world, and available at perfectly decent prices in any half-competent restaurant.
The fact that you don't get a bin-lid sized slab of it is a good thing, as a quick glance at the girth of any average American will confirm.

The biggest difference will be the size of the meals and the fact you only get one cup of coffe, no free refills, as for Mexican you can find a couple in London, tried one in Carnaby street, the words to discribe it begin with shite and end with crap, it was run by an aged hippy who claimed he spent the seventies traveling around Mexico, wish he had taken cooking lessons while he was their.
In Liverpool the new place is Alma de Cuba, which claims to be Latin American, Alma’s cuisine is Cuban(ish) but there are hints of artistic licence, for example asparagus isn’t naturally plentiful in Cuba, it comes deep fried in chilli beer batter and served with star anise ketchup in a manchego basket? Sorry no Tacos, it is also fuc ing expensive, be ready to splash out and don't feel all American and leave a tip, the basta rds include it on the bill.

I'm still quite curious to see if "Meat Pies" in England are a lot like "Pot Pies" in the US. I love me some Pot Pies.
http://images.ibsys.com/2002/0923/1682129_200X150.jpgI do like a good pot pie, preferably with suet pastry.
Do you realize how long it took me to find a decent steak and kidney pie here after they closed the "Mucky Duck" on Wiltshire.

If you ever find yourself in San Francisco, look me up. I'll show you some very, very fine Mexican restaurants.

At least locally for me... Buffalo, NY. The Native American mothers on the Cattaragus Indian Reservation make the best "tacos". I suppose it is more like a burrito/wrap. I'm not that "up" on Mexican cuisine to comment further.

"However, England is notorious for some of the world's worst food>" Have you read what others on this thread say about the food in England?
Mind you when I left, it sucked....:)
Dist (I can call you dist can't I. I feel like I know you.) You're obviously a smart young man and you'll go far but basing assumptions on what you've heard and not seen (or tasted) for yourself is a mistake. I'm sure some day soon you'll get to travel a lot and find out for yourself.
It's nice that you jump in as defender of one of 'ours' but if you don't like what I say........ Just ********in' say so.....!
Your diatribe makes you sound like a pompous prig......:D
True. I was just going off what I've heard; which doesn't classify English food in a very favorable position. Obviously, not having had it hardly qualifies me as an expert. Whatever. :p
Also, if you want real Mexican food (or really, Tex-Mex), come to SAtown. The stuff in Arizona is utter shit.

San Antonio is THE place for Tex-Mex.

You're correct and I apologise, you didn't say that at all. I just read it that way! I didn't mean to sound so strongly negative about it. Or to sound anti American...gawd knows I've married two of them. My Oregon wife of some 28 years and I travel as much as we can in as many places that don't have a Hilton or McDonalds. But we've met those people.:)
Thanks, I didn't mean to sound all angry, i just get frustrated at times because I know that people around the world don't like Americans, and in some cases rightfully so, which sucks for me because I've always loved living in other places, learning new languages and immersing myself in cultures besides my own. I wish our president had tried that once.
I don't stay mad for long....except at manure players.
