View Full Version : The Manchester United All-Time draft.

I've been mulling over an idea since this morning and thought it'd be a great excercise for both the participants and those who are viewing the draft.
The idea is that we get 10-12 participants involved in creating 12 of the best xi's united have ever had. Due to our illustrious history only 1 other team in England could manage so many teams :p that adds to its luster a bit.
Anyway, the format is very basic. We get 10 or 12 people to take turns from a list of selecting 1player per round. Eventually creating 10or12 super teams to be paired off for competition to decide a winner.
It's a light-hearted project intended to educate fans and participants alike. I want people to know more about the club they support and not just the very immediate past. This exercise will have participants delving back past the 90's and into the history of the club before they were supporting or perhaps even born!
I've PM'd Motter and he's ready to roll with it, so we'll have it stickied in another forum - this one has too many stickies - and the project will go forward.
As participants you will need to find a profile for the players you pick as we want to read and learn about these great players of the club's history.
If you're interested please put your name forward.
I have a request that Ted takes part, being a fan for a long time has it's immediate advantages in a draft of this nature ;) I'd also like Howard to be one of the judges if he is not interested in taking part.
Cheers all.
Put your name down if you're interested. I hope this project is so great it stands the test of time :)

I'd be interested, but I don't feel that my knowledge pre the premier leauge era is enough to participate in a meaningful way...

My only requirement is that drafters are willing to educate themselves and do a little bit of research. I.e if you key in Matt Busby and teams you'll have a whole encylopedia of new players to pick from. So if you're willing to do that then you should be fine. I'll say straight away people like Forlan or Djemba should not be in this draft due to people struggling with players pre '90. Is all.

Ok, in that case.. I'm in, and I'll start off with the research right off ;)
I mean, I have some knowledge, just not off the top of my head...

Uh, rules.
1. The Utd 4-4-2 must be used No exceptions.
2. No square pegs in round holes! i.e you can't pick Cantona and use him as a DM or, out of the positions he actually played.
Err, I think that's it unless others want to add on?

Um... DS, maybe you should be the judge? Or Motterman? I don't think there are many people on these boards that know MU's history better than the participants you listed.
As far as Forlans or Djembas, I think they should be available along with everyone else, but I don't expect either of them to be drafted. Surely there are more than 20 forwards that have played better than Forlan in our history ;)
Also, when drafting, are we supposed to take into account their play for MU or their entire career? If a player played 1-2 years for MU and has done nothing special, but has been great somewhere else, should we look just at his performance for MU or not?
I'll play.
