Hockey will die... soon, unless they do something dramatic. When half a million viewers see it on a public channel, it's just not worth whatever NBC is paying for it. Hockey is probably outside of top 10 in popularity among American sports.
NBC is paying nothing for it, their entire rights agreement entails a sharing of ad revenue from the broadcast with the NHL and that's it.

well, when i am sitting at the AAC, watching the stars play.. the last thing i think about is that the sport has become Americanized.
more along the lines of.. "what a great hit", "nasty deke by zubov" "sweet save with the cheater by turco" etc, etc, etc, etc...
You've completely missed the point. Congratulations.

Tell me the last time you saw a player take a slap shot directly at another player with the intent to injure him.

I saw Adam Deadmarsh do it in a game against Florida.
but things very similar to that have been going on for decades.

The NHL has too many teams and the talent pool is diluted. They need to contract Tampa Bay, Florida, Columbus, Carolina, Nashville, Atlanta and stick up North. ... Dallas I despise for obvious reasons but they seem to draw well enough.
If one believes the rumors, next season could be the last year Nashville is an NHL city if Basille succeeds in buying the team. They'd likely end up in Hamilton for the 2008-09 season.
What is your reason for despising Dallas? You wouldn't happened to have been a North Stars fan, would you -- like I was from the late 70's until Norm F*****g Green moved them from Bloomington...

What the f*** is up your ass today? Try staying on top of the debate instead of tossing feces about in the thread.

Sure did. Albeit a young one, but the years without pro hockey that I had to endure here were quite tough.
EDIT: I forgot to add Phoenix to the teams that should be contracted.

that anaheim team.. full credit to them.
really dominant defensively.
and that penner-getzlaf-perry line... they are similar to that "Legion of Doom" line (Leclair-Lindros-Renberg) of 12 years or so ago.
alfredsson has been his usual brilliant self and stepped up, shame nobody else has. ARE YOU LISTENING JASON SPEZZA?

Well about wrapped up for Anaheim now. Credit to them, you can't fluke your way to the Cup.
The celebrations are always fun to watch anyway.

One of the greatest nights of my life, saw it in the flesh!
The roar when Selanne lifted the Cup was the loudest I've ever heard in my life.
What an amazing feeling this is, I still have goosebumps just thinking about it.

Good on the Ducks, they deserved it more than any other team this year. Seeing the Cup hoisted every season by a team other than the Leafs maks me feel miserable to be a Leafs fan. The most storied hockey club along with the Canadiens and we have zero to show for it in 40 years. ********ing pathetic.

It’s sad to say but I have lost just about all my interest in the sport. When the sport when on strike 2 years ago it left bad taste and I tried my best to get back in the sport even went to 5 games the 1st year it was back but I just can’t get back into the sport and the sure fact I didn’t even know the Stanley cup finals were on was the icing on the cake :(

There isn't gonna be much interest from advertisers when they find out just half a mil people watch it. Why would they pay public channel fees for an event that draws 10 times fewer viewers than an average ESPN broadcast.

The Nashville Predators are moving. Ontario looks a likely destination.
Good news imo.

It'll be Hamilton if they do get moved. I was hoping it would be in Kitchener-Waterloo as that's where I go to school, but I never really thought they would place an NHL franchise there when Hamilton is such a better market.

Where's Hamilton located? Population? etc etc?

Hamilton is located just south of Toronto and just north of Niagra Falls. They would be encroaching on both the Toronto Maple Leafs and Buffalo Sabres territory. The population is somewhere between 500,000-600,000 but within and hours drive the population is over 8 million. Southern Ontario is the most populated area of Canada so really you put any team there and it would succeed. There's already almost sold out those season tickets deposits that Jim Balsille has put out for the stadium (Copps Coliseum). The stadium needs a renovation, but it's already been reported that Balsille has the money ready to finance a renovation there.

Good to hear. The fewer teams in the southern US and the more in Canada, the better.
