United great Carlos Llamosa has left MLS to sign with Atletico Nacional of Medellin, Colombia.
Llamosa said: "I was not happy with the way the MLS was treating me in contract negotiations. I will be making only a little more money than the MLS was offering but the dollar goes a lot further in Colombia. You can live in a big house, have a nice car, be very comfortable, on the type of salary I will be making.''

Best wishes to Carlos with his new team.

No doubt, best wishes to Carlos, a long time Barra favorite. I'll never forget the time he flattened Chacon right in front of us. The Barra went nuts!!
CARLOS LLAMOSA, CARLOS LLAMOSA, CARLOS LLAMOSA (mad drumming ensues) :D

Yes, good luck to a very class player and person.

I feel for Carlos. I think he proved he is one of the best man-markers in all of CONCACAF during the last set of WCQ's. Unfortunately, he ran up against the problem that a lot of defenders face. MLS clubs aren't fond of having max salary defenders on their roster for more than one or two seasons.
Good luck in Colombia!!!

I'll miss seeing him play in MLS, and I don't know what the Revs will do to replace him. A tough man-marker, a committed team player, a great guy. Getting a little long-in-the-tooth for National team play, but I hope he has great success in the Southern Hemisphere.
CARLOS LLAMOSA! CARLOS LLAMOSA! CARLOS LLAMOSA!(mad drumming ensues)

Well, at least we don't have to worry about him stonewalling us anymore.
Good luck, Carlos.

Hmmm. I would think safety would be a concern.

Seeing as he is Colombian, I would think he would fit in with the restless natives pretty easily. Of course, all the professional soccer players risk the occassional kidnapping of a relative or themself. But then again, Llamosa was in the World Trade Center the first time it was attacked, so I don't think he really considers one place safer than the other, especially with the upcoming war on Iraq and the increasing risk of terrorist attacks on the US.

Good luck to Carlos Llamosa!
He is a classy individual and a great player who gave all for DC United.

Agreed. I wish Carlos nothing but the best. I wish things would have worked out for him here in New England.
...but don't weep for the Revolution just yet. We're still under the cap, we've only got one SI on the roster, and wait until you see this Shalrie Joseph kid they signed this winter.

Good Luck to Carlos, one of the classiest players ever to pull on the black shirt (and the red white and blue, for that matter).

TRUST ME, Mike, we are not weeping for the Revs. I'm still scratching my noggin about Adin Brown, the Revs' apparent 2002 salary cap exemption, TT's incentives, about Pierce's alleged "servicing" of Brian Hall prior to 2001 USOC semis, and how DC was screwed out of Kante after we drafted him. I hope the Revs implode this year from all the luck they had last year.
I do think that Nicol will adapt his style to the players (or the Revs are s-c-r-e-w-e-d).
To all the Revs fans lurking or whatever, keep the faith. Let's see what lesgal fans do when the gals start to suck (just one injury away).

Not to get in a pissing match, but...
I'm still scratching my noggin about Adin Brown
United had just as much opportunity to sign him as the Revs did. In fact, every team in the league did. The Revs just wanted him more than everyone else.
the Revs' apparent 2002 salary cap exemption
It didn't get much fanfare, but the Revs traded a draft pick to San Jose for extra cap space during the season.
how DC was screwed out of Kante after we drafted him
Screwed? United waived him. You screwed yourselves.

That sucks. I'll miss Llamosa being in the league. He's a classy guy, and always played his heart out for United and for the USMNT.

Mine was higher than yours! ;)
Screwed? United waived him. You screwed yourselves. Yeah, the rules were so fair last year. Draft picks had to be signed (by MLS) before such and such a date else no rights were retained. Previously, draftee rights were held for two years. When Kante was signed by MLS, we should have had first dibs.
I notice you didn't contest the Twellman capless incentives, even though he doesn't, apparently, make max salary.

This is the Tony Sanneh situation all over again. The Revs wanted him back and were willing to sign him at $200K but the league wouldn't make the deal.

Tom, United did have first dibs on Kante..
United offered Kante a developmental contract (because that was all United could afford to pay him at the time) and he refused to sign it..
Good move on Kante's part, bad move on United for not doing their homework ahead of time and simply assuming Kante would sign for peanuts.. United released him after they realized they couldn't sign him..

Llamosa is one of the most skilled defenders in the history of MLS, and probably the history of the national team. HOWEVER, he is getting on in the years, is injury prone, and dangerously close to his sell-by date. He is definitely MLS quality, but I don't think league_max any more. Sorry, just being honest.
I wish Carlos all the best.
