It appears Adu is going to become a US citizen next month enabling him to play for the US - and get cap-tied! - in qualifying in March for the U17 World Championship.

Does anyone know how long it has taken him to achieve citizenship?
How long ago did he and his family first apply?

Five years ago, I believe. The normal process carries a five year residency requirement. It's Adu's mother that is gaining citizenship. Being that Freddie's under 18, he can automatically gain citizenship as soon as his mom does.

On February 13 I will drink a celebratory beer.
I still haven't seen this guy play. Maybe now with his citizenship getting worked out he'll actually play in a game that I can see.

I guess we'll find out some day...until then, it's a fun topic. No need to get your panties in a twist. We're all well aware how young he is, and how potential rarely pans out.

I guess our group will have to visit his house and bring him the good news about our soccer savior Adu.
We have our publication called "The WatchAdu" which is free to anyone who will take it.
You can find us on street corners in many places except during soccer match times.

How long ago did he and his family first apply? In US years? Or in Ghana years?

he still won't even be the age of a high school graduate in 2006. i wouldn't count on seeing him unless he's the next maradonna. even LD was 20 in the WC.

Knave, I'll throw one down too in honor of Freddie.
As for the mention of Regis tied with Freddie.... don't screw the kid up please!!!!! Don't even let David near the kid. His ineptness will rub off.

From his interviews, he really seems to have his head on straight and is very smart.
I think he may actually see some time in '06.. Well, from what I've read and heard, it's not beyond actually happening if his progress continues as it has. If reality equals the hype, he may surprize all of us.

Nah, forget Maradona. Hopefully he'll be better than that, maybe he'll be the next Pele! :D

Let's not stop there! Perhaps someday Pele will say "I wish I had been half as good as Freddie Adu."
and Maradona will say.."Pass me that mirror, please."
