Do you actually follow a special diet to help yourself as a player. Or do just you not care? I'm looking into perhaps modifying my diet? Just wondering how you guys modify yours?

As of right now I have a diet high in protein, and eat as much as I can. I'm trying to gain some weight, and bulk up.
I'm trying to cut down on the weekend drinking because it makes me feel guilty, and the next day is usually a piss off for homework.
But as long as you eat a balanced diet, you should be fine.

Oh please Ryan, your my age, you don't need a special diet this early in your life just for soccer. What are you playing, JV?, Varsity? Don't eat junk food, and play indoor during the off-season. You'll be fine.

Carb load for three to four days before a match, then eat lots of protein for three or four days after a match. Get lots of calcium, and eat lots of veggies and fruits to get valuable vitamins and minerals....... that is not just a health-freak, tree hugger thing, it will help tons in injury prevention.
My mom ran marathons, and I was a fitness instructor in college before I started my semi pro soccer carreer............ I'm not a liscensed expert, but I've learned form a lot of them, and I can say through my own practical experience that most pro level players utilize diet as an extra edge.

lol. Yeah, I wasn't going to go crazy and have a set weekly diet or anything, just wondering what others do. However, I'm going to carb load before a game sometime to see if I notice any difference.

in addition to the advice posted above, when i was playing semi-pro and had to recover quickly, i found that eating one of those protein bars after a session or game really helped. i read about it in my girlfriend's running magazine. i don't know if it was placebo effect or whatever, but i felt the difference. beyond that, eating healthy foods, carbs before games, protein after, and staying hydrated all the time is all i've heard. i'm sure an expert could give you better advice.

I've been eating fattening junk foods my whole life and it's certainly not helping me for soccer.

All that matters is the day before the game drink as much water as you can (like 5 glasses) before you go to sleep.
Then 2 hours before the game drink 2 or 3 glasses of water.
If you do that you will play awesome.

In my game today, i took 2 piss' before the game, 1 at half, and 1 after i drank so much water.
I feel that if your playing hard, you can really eat whatever you want. Just keep in mind to eat things in moderation.

Proper nutrition is not only great for gameday, but(along with training, and pre and post game stretching) is ultimately advantageous for overall longevity in the sport. There are several players in my over 35 league who are pushing 50 and are only a step or two off their peaks from their 20s, all due to a fundamentally sound diet and training approach to the game. (Can also lead to fewer injuries and less down-time when injury is unavoidable)

I don't worry about what I eat during soccer. I don't eat stuff like candy and soda before a game though.

I don't know about you, but for me that's not a very good idea.

Dude get a grip, having a beer or two over the weekend isn't going to hurt you unless you drink alot the night before game or training session.
About half the EPL are current or recovering booze hounds, including your favorite teams captian, but then again I may be going out on a limb here suggesting you know who the captian is and your not a glory supporter( if I am wrong here my bad, but just about everyone under the age of 20 in America playing soccer wants to like Man U because they have a weird Beckham fetish going on).
Alcohol when consumed(I can't say drink, drunk or drank, old habit from playing A$$hole on the weekends LOL) in limited amounts can be good for the heart.
As long as someones drinking isn't controling their lives and they know when they should and should not get a little saucy I think disgrace is a bit on the harsh side man.
What is a disgrace though are people that pass judgment on other peoples lives and actions while sitting on their high horse acting like they don't do anything wrong, just some food for thought.

I'm 15 and I try to watch my weight. I'm currently 146ish and I'm tryin not to pass 155. High school soccer is comin up and I want to be as light as I can!!!
But no for someone not SUPER serious about soccer as in pro then I would say screw a premade diet. It's all just watchin what you eat.

I dunno how big your league is, or which HS team your playing for, but your gonna get tossed around at 146.
Keepers LOVE to go into a 50-50 ball with somebody your size :D hahaha

I'm 5 foot 7 inch 130 lbs. I played this year in highschool as starting right back. You dont get tossed around that much as long as you can dish it back, they should get the idea that you cant be pushed around. Or at least thats what I've found.
thanks
ps sorry this has nothing to do with the thread in general

I'd find it hard to hold up/dispossess the ball against an 180 lbs striker

I got two words for you:
Demarcus Beasley.
Weight doesn't matter if you're good IMO.
