City lose Onuoha for season
By Alex Livie - Created on 3 Feb 2006

Manchester City have been dealt a blow with the news that defender Nedum Onuoha will not play again this season.

The defender has performed with great credit this term, with his efforts reportedly catching the eye of Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez.

Onuoha, whose last appearance came in the Manchester derby in mid-January, injured his knee in training and scans have revealed season-ending damage to the ligaments.

City boss Stuart Pearce admits it is a blow to both player and club that the 19-year-old will play no further part in the campaign.

"I am disappointed for him," said Pearce.

"He is a smashing young lad, with a great future ahead of him. But he is of an age where he will get over it and come back stronger."

Danny Mills is currently sidelined with a shin complaint, but Pearce hopes he will make a return in around a fortnight.

The news on Claudio Reyna is less positive, with the American midfielder set to visit a specialist in Holland in a bid to find a cure for his ankle problem.

Bad news  but at least Pearce signed Matthew Mills so either him or Sommeil will have a chance to replace him on the bench.

I'll be fine with not having Nedem as long as Thatcher:eek: stays on the bench where he belongs

I think that Pearce will keep playing Stephen Jordan at left-back - hes doing a really good job
