Ever since the NFL switched from 14 games to 16 games for the 1978 regular season, no team has ever gone undefeated.

However, as of the end of the 2005 NFL season, four teams have come one game shy of that elusive undefeated mark. Which of the four listed teams was the best of them... and why? :)

Da Bears! They just had that something extra that year. Sweetness, Mike Singletary, The Fridge, Ditka... that was a fun team to watch as they steamrollered everyone except the Miami Dolphins, who were defending their own franchise's legacy as the only team in the modern era to go through a full season undefeated.

Next in line, but only a hair's breadth back, would be the '84 Niners. Montana, Ronnie Lott, Roger Craig, Bill Walsh... what more need be said?

I can't say that either the '98 Vikings nor the '04 Steelers were quite as memorable for their dominance as either of the first two listed above.
