There's Something About Mary

basically an extended I Love Lucy episode with potty mouth, and so successful that virtually all "funny" movies made in Hollywood follow this formula, thus not the worst for what it is, but the worst for it's effect on the world

What the hell were you suspecting?

Ok. I have to call you on this one. Tell me what was "clever" in that garbage.

Doggy paddling in the shallow end of a philosophy 101 pool isn't clever unless your an avid Oprah and WWE watcher...

Titanic was probably the worst movie for the amount of money spent on it, but as far as the worst movie ever. That award goes to
Head of the Family,
Worst movie ever.

Americathon w/ John Ritter, early 80's. I don't know how there could be any contest.

You've all made some good suggestions, but the worst movie ever is STILL Santa With Muscles.

I gotta go with Howard the Duck...that piece of crap has always held a special place in my heart as the suckiest movie that ever sucked.

i'd agree with that. i'm still pissed it won anything. upon the envenlope being ripped open, gladiator immediately became the worst movie to ever win best picture.

also, hudson hawk was terrible, terrible, terrible. it may have been worse than that. another one in the same depths: fifth element.

the only movie i ever walked out on: for the boys. what the f&&k was I doing at a bette midler movie anyway?

No way dude, F off, and I mean that in the nicest possible way :) "Hudson Hawk" rules. I have the only existing copy. It inspired me to learn all the words to "Would You Like to Swing on a Star."

Nine pages and no mention of Show Girls? The mind boggles.

No, I've never paid to watch it, but they've shown it a bunch of times on VH1 lately. I'm as much a fan of unclothed young females as anybody, but I wouldn't even rent it just to get away from the electronic bikinis in the edited for TV version. Maybe it's because the electronic bikinis turn in a more nuanced heart felt performance than ANY of the actors. Of course, if you had to say those lines, you'd probably feel and look pretty worthless too.

A couple other nominations:
Night of the Lepus, the world's only (at least I hope so) rabbit horror flick. Worth it just for the scenes where they splice together shots of characters and sets with blown up footage of running rabbits.

Gates of Hell, at least I think that was the title. Some time in the early early 80s, somebody apparently decided that Dawn of the Dead was way too high brow and big budget. The maggots were rice grains, the blood-n-gore looked like strawberry jelly, and there is an electric drill killing that has so little to do with the rest of the movie that one can only assume that one of the carpenters left his equipment on the set by mistake. There were no credits at the end, and if I'd had anything to do with that movie, I wouldn't have wanted my name on it either.

Without a doubt, the worst movies of modern times all had Shaq in them:

-Blue Chips
-Kazaam
-Steel

He's almost as bad of an actor as he is a rapper

Zoolander, how could anybody like this movie. Santa with Muscles isn't really far. It low budget and every body knew it would suck.

My vote prolly goes to:

It's Pat - The Movie

I dunno if this was even released in theaters, but my sister gave it to me as a joke christmas present a few years ago. It is *so* unfunny and just *boring*, the worst sin a comedy film can commit. At least Shaq's movies are so bad they're funny.

I think some of these movies that people are listing can be classified as 'overrated' rather than bad...It's Pat really is that bad though.

Anyone remember Valkenvania? It had Chevy Chase, Demi Moore, Dan Akroyd and John Candy. Awful, awful and to this day I wonder how I got suckered into watching it.

I think this thread is pretty funny. Pretty much everyone has a particular taste in movies which makes a lot of movies that others would classify as good as horrible. Regardless this thread is for the worst movie ever. So I will list only one of the two movies that I have fallen asleep on. I put this one as the worst ever because it had a couple of good actors in it. The Avengers.

Lost in Translation.
--smug, smirking Bill Murray
--a complete lack of writing, i.e. not one memorable line
--stupidest ending ever filmed
--unbelievably racist.
