I'd like to begin a thread on the world's current events and see what our fellow posters here think of some of the craziest stories that goes on around the globe.
I just fell on this one:
"Narcs nab drug-smuggling puppies"
http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/americas/02/01/drug.pups/index.html

That groundhog aint what he used to be. With all this hardcore fertilizers they use in the lawn nowadays. Chances are he hallucinated that he saw his shadow ;). I think its gonna be 55 today.

if that kind of project takes years here to do (for example, a third train tunnel connecting NYC and NJ which is still being studied has been in the books for years) how long with this megapuerto take?

It will take more then the 7 years as stated in the paper. But none the less its a great idea. I am sure we are couple of decades away from making a project similar to this.

It seems a little unreasonable. But what the hell, if it provides jobs, then go for it. And yes it will take atleast 10 years tk complete this fully.

It'll be great I think we should do it before the rotos again steal our idea and proclaim it as theirs. That airport is similar to the one in Japan (Kyoto I believe) where they made an airport in the middle of the sea from nothing. It has been long said that Callao's port is outdated and the Lima airport has just gotten a tunnel (no more walking from the landing strip to get your luggage). I say lets go for it.

Speaking of underground stuff, doesn't Boston have some sort of underground freeway system? I heard it took them 10 years and several billion dollars to complete it.
What we need is a metro rail system. Expand on Alan's project.
Just about all the big Latin American cities have them. Mexico City, Caracas, Bogota, Santiago, Buenos Aires.

Alan heh.
We should move our capital from that horrid desert period!
I think Arequipa would make a great capital. Yes, no port, but you dont need a port to become a nice well designed clean city.. especially with Arequipa's beautiful weather.

I agree with Lou.
It is only about time we get a Metro system. Seriously.

actually Lima is already building an underground metro system, I was last in peru a few weeks back and people were talking about it and how it's already under construction. Now about the new airport, how far off Lima is this island?? is it necessary?? but like Farfan said, if it creates jobs then go for it.

they are already expanding the existing rail system, its going to take 3 years to advance the current rail about 15miles:eek:
