More importantly from the AP article:

"The number of tickets going to the 31 foreign teams qualified for the June 9-July 9 soccer showcase has been raised by more than 100,000 to 592,000."

Does this mean US Soccer is getting roughly 3200 more tickets (100,00 divided by 31 teams)? Assuming thet divvy them up evenly.

If so, US Soccer waiting list people might get tickets afterall....

that is how i read it.

I'd imagine that the 3200 additional tickets US Soccer may get for further distribution is a very rough guess, as each of the 12 stadiums may have different amounts of newly added seating.

Per the FIFA release 124,000 extra tickets will be released to the 31 non-German feds. Since it's stadium capacity changes that caused this surplus of tickets I would assume it applies to every game. Thus 124,000 tickets for 64 games is about 2,000 extra tickets per game. 1,000 to each fed.

Two factors will vary this average of 1,000 to each fed. First, if the other fed for the game has had trouble filling their initial quota the other fed may receive the bulk of the new tickets. Second, each stadium's capacity change will be different larger stadiums probably have more give. Thus there are probably more tickets available for the games in big stadiums and less extra tickets in small venues.

Hmm I wonder how the FFA will distribute these considering there is no waiting list or anything and they just gave a yay or nay when the allocation of Australia's tickets were done.

some news links

http://www.ussoccer.com/articles/viewArticle.jsp_280704.html

"FIFA announced on Tuesday (Feb. 1) the additional allocation of 140,000 tickets to the National Associations participating in the World Cup. At this point in time, U.S. Soccer has not learned of its individual allocation, if any at all. However, it is anticipated that the number of tickets we could receive will be very small because the U.S. games have been in high demand.

As FIFA releases additional information on these tickets, information will be posted on our website and fans in our system will receive an e-mail update. Members on the Priority Waiting List per the original ussoccer.com private sale will receive priority status for any additional tickets received by U.S. Soccer."

England fans are likely to get about 2,000 extra tickets for the team's three group games at this summer's World Cup, mainly for the 10 June opener against Paraguay.
Football Association officials are optimistic they will get 1,500 to 2,000 more seats than the 9,000 originally promised by the 2006 World Cup organising committee.
They should be a combination of returned tickets that the Paraguay FA cannot sell and 'restricted view' seats that were not originally going to be sold.

More tickets will also be released as the Germans finalise seating plans, adding 140,000 over the tournament to raise the overall ticket count to 3,070,000.
"This relates to the fact that we could erase security stocks and we've got a very precise seating order now," Schmidt said.
"The fans all over the world who use the official distributional channels will benefit."
Schmidt added: "We will get the final ticket numbers after the instalment of the temporary equipment in the stadia.
"There will also be seats with a limited view on the pitch, which are 40% cheaper, and still grant a good view. They will be very popular."

For a way at comparing how different federations communicate...I went to the Swedish website and they have this comment posted as of 1/25/06:

Sverige får 15.490 extra biljetter till VM
--------------------------------------
På onsdagen fick Svenska Fotbollförbundet det glädjande beskedet att VM-arrangörerna tilldelar Sverige ytterligare 15.490 biljetter till de tre gruppspelsmatcherna.

The rough translation is that Swedish fans have a total of 15,490 extra tickets for the first three games.

Nothing on the USSoccer site.... more than a week later...

it should be noted that USSoccer did inform via email those people who got their orders in but were placed on the waiting list, that should more tickets be made available from Fifa, then those on the waiting list will have the opportunity to be awarded tickets.

US Soccer had an overwelming response, and orders far outnumbered ticket availability. so even with these additional tickets made available by fifa, US Soccer will only be able to partly get through their waiting list, and tickets won't be made available for public sale.

seems a bit different from how the Swedes are handling it, but that's how US Soccer has decided to manage it.
