As the post below was talking about a River Plate youth player, I was wondering if anyone knows how Erik Lamela is progressing at the moment. He was the 12 year old Barcelona tried to "sign' from RP a couple of years back. Is he still with RP and cany anyone tell me if he is still rated as potential future star?

River's ninth division beat Boca 5-1 in the Bombonera on Saturday. Daniel Villalba (2), Emmanuel Morelli (2), and Erik Lamela (1) were the players who scored the goal for the winning side. They all are said to have played well, and are only 14 years old..
Daniel Villalba: He was chosen the Man of the Match. Not only that, but he is also part of the Argentina U15 side. Being 1.56 meters tall, they compare him to Saviola not only because of his height, but also because of his style of play.. Might be an interesting prospect to keep in mind..
Emmanuel Morelli: He is a foward, who scored 2 goals vs. Boca to make it a total of 14 by him this season.
Erik Lamela: He is the "famous" youngster that Barcelona wanted in 2004, when he was barely 12. He "supposedly" scored a nice goal. After several pases, he passed a last defender, and scored with his left.

Up!
There's more info about this kid (well not that kiddy anymore, he has grown up quite a bit!).
As some of you may know it already, the River's youth divisions really shone this year. The sixth, seventh (where Erik Lamela played), eighth and ninth were all campeones!
Lamela was a major element to River's success in the seventh division (categoria '92) and in the last game against Gimnasia, he scored two goals, a free-kick and un golazo de rabona!
Above the picture.
Here's an Ole article:
Lamela no contesta.
Y a festejar.

They were competing with Banfield for the title and they had the last word in the last three fechas!

Looks like Pipo is taking him and "Keko" Villalba to Mendoza. If anyone hasn't seen any clips of Lamela play, check out the clip someone posted of him on Youtube. The kid definitely has skills.

In the same game he put his rabona goal, he scored a very nice free-kick and give an "Riquelme-esque" assist to Villalba.

There are many interesting players in the lower divisions: from some of the more known ones like Andres Rios and Mauro Diaz, to the younger players like Mussachio, Emmanuel Martinez, Villalba, Lamela, etc. Many of them are just way too young to be put on the pitch vs. the top Argentinean teams, but I do agree that they deserve some more chances.
