I have seen three movies in theaters recently and one other one I rented.

I would give American Gangster thumbs up, I just thought it was a good movie. Denzel dominated once again.

I was less positive about I Am Legend and National Treasure 2. They weren't bad but they weren't good.

Rented Live Free or Die Hard, or whatever it's called. Ridiculous, but what I have come to expect from Die Hard movies.

I liked Gangster. Lots of homage to Coppola but Washington is a great actor and he makes the movie interesting.

Wouldn't cross the room to see either of the other two.

See Atonement if you can -- take a date. You might get lucky:D

I really cannot say enough about "No Country For Old Men." Brilliant film, definitely the best of the year. It's a challenging narrative, but well worth it.

By the way, if you like Tim Burton you'll love Sweeney Todd, even if you're not a musical fan. If you like musicals, it is a very non-theatrical take on the story with mostly non-Broadway type voices. The great songs and demented story line is still there. Johnny Depp is very good and everyone around him is excellent. Sasha Baron Cohen is surprisingly good in a non-Borat/Ali G role. All in all, a good two hours in the cinema.

Saw it with some friends, skeptical when I entered the theater, and I liked it a lot. Best movie I have seen in theaters since American Gangster. A little disturbing though.

I prefered his description of London, it could be song to London teams at soccer matches

"There's a whole in the world like a great black pit
and the vermin of the world inhabit it
and its morals aren't worth what a pin can spit
and it goes by the name of London."

"here's a hole in the world like a great black pit
and it's filled with people who are filled with shit!
And the vermin of the world inhabit it!"

Never been to London but it's insulting.

Oh London today is a world class city. History and the like even with many. Restaurants and museums in the mid rank. Its no Paris, Rome, or NYC but its good. Even with Vienna or Amsterdam. But it is EXPENSIVE even if you are not a Yank with a half priced dollar. Recommend a visit . I'd make sure I got to Anfield first though:D

Just saw Charlie Wilson's War. Damn fine movie -- best movie about Congress in years. The sets look exactly like the Hill not like the fake overly ornate stuff Hollywood dreams up. Langley looks like Langley. It's written by Aaron Sorkin and directed by Mike Nichols. The cast is brilliant -- Hanks, Julia Roberts, Amy Adams and the incomparable Phillip Seymour Hoffman. I highly recommend it -- funny and provocative at the same time.

I will be going to that sometime this week, but tomorrow I am going to Walk Hard with the relatives. I am not expecting much, a few laughs would be nice. Stay tuned for what I think of it.

I'm thinking that's not a real tough category. Although, your "home town" perspective may make it more appealing to you.

What I meant was that it gets the real process down and the physical sets are dead on. Too often offices and hearing rooms are rendered too elaborately and the ligislative process is made too dramatic. It is a fine movie though and funny. One line has someone saying "why is Congress saying one thing and doing another?" Tom Hanks answers "It's tradition, mostly". See what I mean. In another, using an actual Charlie Wilson quote, someone asks why Wilson's staff is made up of all good looking women and is told "Charlie says you can teach 'em to type, but you can't teach 'em to grow tits".

the song parodies are good -- the Dylan and Beach Boys parodies had me rolling in the aisles.

Yikes. I like 'em as much as the next guy. But, I'm shocked that something like that is actually in the movie.

Just got back from Walk Hard. It had some good laughs, wasn't a great movie masterpiece but obviously it's not supposed to be. My favorite was the Dylan parody and the whole drug story line was kind of funny too. My younger brothers, who aren't too informed of older music, didn't get the jokes. Like when I was laughing really hard at the Dylan parody they stared at me like they didn't know what was going on.

It was the 70's and it was tongue in cheeck -- Wilson actually had women in all the key roles that usually were filled by men back then.

Rented some movies this weekend. Not really any deep, thinkers, just looking for some cheap entertainment. Movies I rented were Jackass 2.5, Shoot'em Up, and Four Brothers.

Jackass 2.5 was a waste of time. It was basically extra footage they cut from Jackass the Movie 2. See, I was in Junior High/High School when Jackass came out and I thought they were hilarious. Now my thinking is that some of the stuff they do is funny, with most of it being disgusting and completely stupid.

Four Brothers was an alright movie. Not good, not bad. It was hard not to laugh at Marky Mark trying to be a badass. The story was pretty good, but it was more or less just another typical action/drama movie.

Now Shoot'em Up was my favorite movie I have rented in a while, and I would recommend it. It's a spoof of all the movies with ridiculous shoot outs and car chases. There isn't much dialogue to speak of, but when Clive Owen's character says something it is usually pretty funny. He is a bitter guy and hates on various things (non-handicapped people parking in handicapped spots, not using your blinkers when driving, spanking your children in public, etc). I guess I liked it because I went in with low expectations but if you want to watch a ridiculous action movie that defies logic, rent it.
