Great, but is he really a step up from Mendes?

Probably. Mendes didn't really do much, but Murphy is combative ands tough in the middle.

I still don't get the point of this...but whatever. He's a good player, but trading out a bunch of central midfielders for other central midfielders was not what I had in mind.

I liked Mendes but for whatever reason he wasn't getting a shot under Jol. Murphy's form has faltered a bit, but he was fantastic early on this season for Charlton. His passing game is excellent and if I'm not mistaken he can play on the left (not sure if he's a real left footer). Carrick is certainly coming into his own, but when in form, Murphy is there already and can be the person to feed Defoe and Keane up front.

Not a bad signing but could have been in alot sooner but he didn't want to be involved in the transition with a new manager.

Murphy is more capable on the right (he is right footed) and will probably add some creativity to the middle of the park.

So what's the ideal starting midfield now?
Jenas-- Murphy -- Carrick -- Davids
Lennon backup to Jenas, Tainio backup to Murphy, Reid backup to Davids, Huddlestone (?) backup to Carrick.
And where does Jol play Ghaly? I don't know where he has played in the past.

Not impressed by this signing. I don't know how much better he is than Mendes etc...
it could of happened about a year ago but it didn't

I would put it the other way round, Murphy backing up Tainio. For me Tainio has been the 2nd best signing we made in the summer, 1st is Davids.
Jenas-Carrick-Davids-Tainio
Lennon-Huddlestone-Ghaly-Murphy
I hope Murphy isn't expecting to just turn up and be in the team, i doubt he would be thinking that though, surely?

...I for one am happy with the Murphy deal, he has an excellent range of passing. And I think will be a benefit to our forwards. Bit off topic but what ******** is up with our strike force? We have failed to score in 3 now.

Murphy is a steel at 2 million qiud. Although, I can't see him sitting on the bench and keeping his mouth shut.
Shame about the result tonight :p Don't worry, we are going to get you a result tomorrow. I know you will be cheering us on with all your heart.

Murphy speaks about the move
"Spurs have always been a club that has attracted me," Murphy told Spurs' official website.
"But, whereas previously things didn't work out, this time they have.
"I am absolutely delighted.
"I am looking forward to playing my part in the team Martin Jol is building."

What he is saying is, back then i didn't know what type of team Tottenham would have been but now they are high in the table i'm delighted to jump onboard.

So my source that told me about us definitely signing Ghaly and Murphy was right.
Murphy is not the same player as Mendes btw.

Davids and Jenas as wingers...I'm sure fullbacks all over the league are shaking in their boots.:(
We have no options but route 1 football because we have no wizard of a playmaker, and we have no width. So that leaves us with long shooting, or hitting the ball at Mido.
Defoe at least gives us someone who might create a goal for himself. And Lennon gives us some width on the right, though his final ball still needs work.
Murphy is better than Mendes...but then again Mendes never got to play. Is it really necessary to upgrade a player that never gets to play?
We were going along well until the last couple days. We'd offloaded a bunch of players that never played for some decent money. We would have possibly had Routlege helping us out, Brown covering on the left and in the middile. And to boot, there was interest in Fatty, the stick man, and the whiney brat.
I thought we might see deals that took all three of them to different clubs and then replace them with actual footballers at their positions. Namely a left winger, a back-up in central defense, and cover for the fullbacks.
Then we offload both players that cover us decently at the wide positions, or at least don't get us kicked out of all-you-can-eat establishments, and bring in...two central midfielders? Are we going to 4-3-3, or is it just Jol's policy to have an 8:1 central midfielder to winger ratio at all times?
I thought this tranfer window did absolutely nothing to help us other than build up some funds.
I also thought this team needed a shot in the arm after the Leicester game with a big-name signing that would boost their confidence. Does Danny Murphy fit the bill? I guess we'll wait and see.
