Contrary to popular belief "Shake That Ass Bitch" is not by 2 Live Crew. But really by the Splack Pack.

This was a devastating album. In terms of structure and power, this was Metallica's last great album. I'll tell you why I bring it up. I was listening to music on my way to school this morning, and the song "...And Justice for All" comes on. I think about skipping it, but it doesn't let me. It pounds me back into my seat.
Many of their latest albums, starting with the self-titled, have songs that indulge in themselves. Songs that could be 4 to 5 minutes drag on until you don't want to hear it ever again. There is a beauty to a song that can captivate you for 7 minutes. This album has countless songs of that nature. After all, you can only listen to a palm-muted Em chord so many times. For this reason, I bring up this album.
Blackened, Justice, One, Shortest Straw, Dyer's Eve. Awesome. The production on this album stinks, but the songs stand tall. I can hardly hear any bass in their tunes, but it sizzles. Compare that to their last couple of albums, including the Black album, which is way too slick for a metal band. On Justice, the snare drum sounds like a cardboard box, but it kills. What the hell happened to these guys? If you see the film "Some Kind of Monster", you will know.
I know this is kind of random, but it put a lot of thought into my head. I keep going back to these older albums, probably dissatisfied with the state of rock music. Shit, I'd rather listen to Kelly Clarkson than pretty much all of the stuff that is being brought out. Rock seriously need a kick in the butt, and Metallica needs to retire. Ugh, there is probably more...Where is Axl when you really need him?:(

U2 are one of those bands who I don't generally mind if they come on the radio, but I'd never go out of my way to get (any of) their album(s). Way too many of their songs are formulaic and pedestrian, although they make up for it with the few really good 'uns.
Also, Zeppelin > Floyd. I've never seen the appeal of Metallica.

Zeppelin and Floyd are about equal.. Their music is so different you can't fairly compare them...

True. I don't have anything against Floyd, I just couldn't let the 'Floyd > Zep' claims slide past.

Once again, I was driving. This time I was on my way home after a long day of papers and midterms when the song 'All Around the World' comes on. Yes, it is the current ATT ad jingle, but it is a great song. Far be it for me to decry the hostility that Noel Gallagher has toward his third album, but I enjoy very much for so many reasons.
The songs are overblown. Fck, I know that, but that is part of the beauty. Don't Oasis know that part of their mystique was that they themselves were overblown? Overproduced? Hell yeah, but so are they as celebrity figures. This album is them at their peak, and it is really good. For me, this album starts at 'My Big Mouth.' It slide tackles you at 100mph after 'D'You Know What I Mean?' and its intro could wake up dead. LOUD. Songs like 'I Hope, I Think, I Know' are Oasis in cruise control, but that is part of the pleasure. They re-enacted what made them the 'it' guys of the time, and it sounded pretty darn good. 'Don't Go Away' is another one of those gems that you know would be on the album. The best songs, though, are Oasis in brilliant form.
They pretty much peaked at 'Fade In-Out' and 'All Around the World.' These two songs set this album apart from the rest. Once again, the word is loud, but they both have dynamics that are missing in Noel's writing. As coked out as they were at this time, they produced a pretty quality album. I know too many people out there that disagree with me, but I stand by this (no pun intended) as one of Oasis' best albums. It is just a shame that they don't pull these tunes out when they play live. It would knock the crowd's socks off, and leave them waiting and salivating for more.

I just installed Sirius satellite radio in my car and let me just say it is the greatest invention in the world.. Not only do I have tons of stations but I can search them by band, and even song. You can program it to remember a favorite band and or song and it will alert you everytime it is on. Also it has pause rewind and fast forward liek a DVR..
And best of al Live broadcasts of EPL matches.

If I ever listened to the radio any more, I would be totally jealous. Does your monthly payment allow you to access Sirius on your computer also?
Good news for you: Stern. Bad news: three months of all Springsteen radio just finished.

I hear you about Stern. Other than one morning a year ago, I haven't listened to him in a decade. I'm sure he's still great, but I just never listen to the radio. I ride the subway to work, watch TV or read or listen to CDs at home, and if I go for a long drive it's with the wife and we listen to audio books. I can't see where I can fit in radio.

Figured you took the subway or some sort of mass transit to work. I here ya about fitting in time for the radio.. If I didn't drive to work I probably would never listen to it either.
About the audio books ... Do you compare notes and discuss it afterwards like a book club:p
1 question though how do you get her to keep quiet long enough to hear the book. When we're in the car together my Fiance chews my ear off..

Jayro, now that you have Sirius, you should reconsider listening to Stern, since his move to Satellite radio, his show has been asbolutelu stellar. I've listened to every single show there, and you're missing out on everything from revelations to roasts.

Has the format changed or is it still mostly them judging chicks and whatnot??

It was never them judging chicks only. They have roasts in which a massive amount of comedians come together and roast Ralph or Ronnie for example. Hot chicks still come in and they're made to ride the Sybian (mechanical bull-like sex thing) its great.
Interviews area thousand times better, and so are bits without all the cencorship and delays. I'm telling you man everyone in the cast is beaming, they're now actually happy to be there and work, and the whole attitude changed for the better, positive atmosphere and work environment make for a much better show. I'm hooked, and I really advise you to listen in for a week or so.
