 Both are phenomenal bands. I would even go as far as saying Soundgarden was the Zeppelin of the 90's.
If youre talking about RATM and Sound Garden...fine...Ill give you that...especially RATM...one of my all time favs.
But is there really a need for Soundgarden Part Deux. Maybe Im just disappointed that Zach De La Rocha decided to leave the band, but having Cornell sub in was a bit of a downer.

With Soundgarden and his solo work, Cornell was and will always be one of the best rock vocalists of all time. (He's in my top five) But it's very noticeable that his voice is aging with Audioslave. For this band it was produced to the max to sound good because he hasn't been able to do his marquee screams anymore. He pretty much outscreamed himself with Soundgarden.

Not much of a Britpop fan, eh?
Edit: Although it did technically start a LONG time before the grunge/Seattle movement, it continued to evolve beyond the other's demise.
Here it mostly started and ended with Oasis, with the occasional Blur sighting. Which is a damn shame because while you guys were getting Pulp, The Verve, Manic Street Preachers, and Ocean Colour Scene, we were hearing more and more from crap like Korn and Limp Bizkit. Thank goodness that didn't last long.

I love(d) Britpop. I think it was because my first serious musical interests tended to British "New Romantic" in the 80s. (Duran Duran, New Order, Depeche Mode, Erasure, etc.) There's something about cheesy poppy Brit music that still just gets me, and alot of the new(ish) poppy stuff echoes the old so much, imo. I would love another synthesizer revolution . . . And before you even get started -- back off, guitar purists :D

I agree. My personal opinion of Audioslave is that they're godawful. The idea of the band is great, what actually comes out is not. I feel that the band constricts not only Cornell, but Morello as well. He had a very innovative vibe and technique in Rage, but with Audioslave, he seems tied down to something. I miss Kim Thayil, btw.

I have listened to Audioslave I like them. They are rock. It is definatelly NOT just a 'substitute' for DLR, it is a completely different sound and feel from RATM. How you can compare the two besides the members is ridiculous.
Although I will give that you can tell its Morello on guitar, justas you can tell its Slash for VR, they are just distinctive.
Been listening to some Arctic Monkeys, more Kaiser Chiefs, a little bit of Snow Patrol (kiss it), Eric Clapton, Greenday, and Pearl Jam since we last spoke.

Its a cheap excuse for the American/anguished youth to destroy. I remember the debacle that was Woodstock 98. Those bands plus Papa Roach, Slipknot, etc., etc., should be shipped to an island and debate the reason why they added a 7th string to their guitars when they only play music which necessitates two strings. Dumbasses.

Don't worry about the guitar purists. One of my favorite guitarists, Nick McCabe from the Verve, actually played the guitar trying to mimick synthesizers. He was very much about the sound and I'm sure he inspired many guitarists out there that should be sprouting up pretty soon.:)

Anyone here listen to Sigur Ros? They are a band from Iceland whose lead singer sings in a semi made up language called Hopelandic. I have their first and third albums, and I have to say, despite not being able to understand the words he is singing, that this band is very good. A friend of mine saw them live last year and said that it was pretty much the best live show he had ever been to. If you have an open mind about your music, definately check them out. They create superb music and they have an absolutely amazing sound. I don't really know what else to say about them other then I highly recommend you check them out.
Speaking of Guitar purists, Sigur Ros' guitarist plays guitar with a violin or cello bow. Top that.

Nigel from Spinal Tap played the guitar with another guitar. "Do you hear that?" http://www.samizdata.net/blog/nigelgui.jpg

Merk'd!!! :D
Forgot to add for those looking for some rock to check out Tool, or if that is a little too dark for them, Tool's more radio friendly cousin, A Perfect Circle.
Tool's new album is pretty good, and their other albums are also worth checking out, Aenima, Lateralus, and Undertow. Undertow even has a song called "Prison Sex." What joy!

APC is the bastard child of Tool and should be treated with scorn.
Thanks for the link.

I have huge respect for Tool. For so long they've managed to put out great album after great album, not sounding like anything else, and without compromising themselfs. Yet all their albums always go platinum. Kudos to Tool.

Well it's the same lead singer... basically a lighter version of Tool, however that doesn't make them a bad band. Compare them to the other rock bands you hear on the radio and they stand apart.
It's for the kids.

......and while shunning the limelight as well. It's rare you ever see pictures of those guys. Very good band.

It's good for someone who's not familiar with the band's work, especially post-WTSMG. But there isn't anything new on there if you have the albums. Plus Noel continues to apparently disavow any existence of "Be Here Now".

Shady/G-unit -The Re-up is nice. Almost every song is good
Lil' Wayne, Birdman - Like Father Like Son is alright. Birdman isn't really doing much, but Lil' Wayne is so talented that he turns the album from being bad to being slightly above average.
Jimmy Jones - Hustlers P.O.M.E.....I love this guys album!
Jay-z - Kingdom Come is well done, and touches on a couple of very sensitive issues, ex: Minority Report.
Fat Joe - Me, Myself and I is a short album, but 10 out of the 12 songs are good. Possibly one of his better albums.
