Have any of you ever seen Dylan in concert before? And if so, how much were the tickets?

I just checked his website for the Fall tourdates and he'll be in Maine in November. I really want to take the chance to see him live before he passes away. I don't think I could live on knowing I never saw the great man at one of his concerts.
I seem to recall of my friends telling me he was trash because he just sat on stage and played poorly and sang horribly. Of course I might be thinking of someone else, I'll check sometime.

I've seen Dylan a few times. He went through a stretch in the late 80s/early 90s (before you were born) during which his shows were lackluster. However, he's improved since then and his backing bands are almost always excellent. Keep in mind that he is a true artist and his work is never finished. As such, songs continue to evolve and he won't hesitate to change arrangements, tempos or keys. If you want it to sound just like the record, you will be disappointed. You should definitely see him as he is a living legend.

I'm not that young, old man. ;)

I've got no problem with him changing songs as he goes. They're his visions, not mine.

Somebody in here, I believe its bestbecks, has been ranting and raving about a band called Muse, so, mostly because of that reason, and because they're opening for GnR out in San Bernardino, I decided to check them out. I haven't played it yet, but I will hear it on tomorrow's commute. I'll check back in then. This better rock, since you felt fit to attack rock of 80's and I'm not sure if I'm going to give you a pass for that!

Muse is pretty good I have been getting into it. Kind of Industrially but still good catchy music.

If you like Radiohead and Queen, you'll probably dig this. You and I seem to share good taste of music, so take it from me, Muse is worth a listen. They're not industrial by the way.

Prog Rock is the term I see Muse labeled with most often. Also, what album are you listening to?

Keep in mind JC7, that any bashing of Muse will result in immediate neg rep. :)

Enjoy.

What are some just straight up rock bands and good stuff to listen to?

I want to find some more good rock music. I really love Oasis (thanks to you all) and Muse is good but a bit to dark for my tastes really. What else are the essentials, and/or new stuff coming out that is really good?

For straight-up rock, try:

Jet - Get Born
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Take Them On, On Your Own
The Raconteurs - Broken Boy Soldiers
Kaiser Chiefs - Employment

There's more, but that should be a good start

You want primarily new bands?

None new but check out these acts;

Velvet Revolver
Audioslave
Queens of the Stone Age
Kasabian
Arctic Monkeys

If you want recommendations for older, classic bands, I'll let you in on the best, THE BEST.

No, not Velvet Revolver. Anyone but them.....or Audioslave. Terrible, SirM, just awful. Now, if you want a full assault, go with the real thing. Guns n Roses, Soundgarden, Rage Against the Machine. Now that is straight up rock.

To go from Rage Against the Machine to Sound Garden was one of the most horrific falls of this rock era.

Oh be quiet. GnR and STP were always among my favorites and VR is just straight up rock, no matter which way you look at it. Great melodies, great solos, catchy, it's just good rock, and a sound that no other band seems to be doing so I'll listen to it.

 Both are phenomenal bands. I would even go as far as saying Soundgarden was the Zeppelin of the 90's.

Nope, in fact the whole "Seattle" scene, (I was to refrain from using that other stupid term that was used regularly to describe it) was the last true good, genuine thing to happen in music. Since then, it's been downright crap. There are a few bands popping up from the U.K. now, but I don't see it much as a movement or another scene and it hasn't ben as concrete.

Not much of a Britpop fan, eh?

Edit: Although it did technically start a LONG time before the grunge/Seattle movement, it continued to evolve beyond the other's demise.

:( Woops, I kind of forgot about the Stone Roses, Blur and Oasis. I like BritPop, I just grew up with the whole Seattle scene. Also, the Seattle scene was still much more important as it went one to influence most of the crap bands today. That's what these movements do, they're great, fresh, innovative. It becomes the norm,Then everyone wants to copy them until the idea runs dry and we'll have to wait for the next big thing. It's been over a decade and I'm still waiting.
