Being a good songwriter is a much better talent to me than anything else in music IMO I wish I could do it.

Well being able to play an instrument and having a good singing voice is also important if you want to actually be respected (aka, not an mtv "star"), not to mention it helps to actually have an open mind to engaging in new ideas as a musician. Look at the current "stars" imo, in popular music. This is strictly my opinion of those who I think qualify to be listed, if you have your own, then feel free to add them. These are just some who come to my mind and deserve to be listed, please add your own and critique my rankings.
Radiohead - Thom Yorke - World Class songwriter, Fantastic musician, Fantastic Singer.
Muse - Matthew Bellamy - World Class Singer, Excellent Musician, talented songwriter.
Coldplay - Chris Martin - World Class Singer, Average Musician, Average Songwriter
Weezer - Rivers Cuomo - Talented Singer, World Class Songwriter, Excellent Musician.
Wilco - Jeff Tweedy - Average Singer, Fantastic Songwriter, Fantastic Musician (BTW, Wilco are a severely underrated band imo)
Kasabian - Tom Meighan* - Average Singer, Excellent Songwriter, Fantastic Musician.
Idk if this makes any sense, have at it if you will...
*I actually don't know for sure who writes the songs for Kasabian so take that with a grain of salt. Or two.

Alright if we talk about world class singers, check out Robert Plant, Ian Gillan, Dave Coverdale, and Geoff Tate.

I'm not so sure that I consider the guys from Weezer even passable singers. They make catchy music but I won't say they have good voice(s) to me.

They don't need to be great singers, after all they don't make voice-driven music.

I dunno if you guys listen to this music, but IMO the guy from Shinedown has a pretty powerful (good) voice.

kudos, KUDOS to you for acknowledging those guys, one of the most underrated bands. Love it, although their first album was much better than their last but "Lady so Divine" is such an amazing tune. And they're great live.

I've not listened to much of them, mostly 45 and other singles, but they are definatelly a throwback to Lynard IMO.
On Oasis Cast No Shadow and Hey Now are now 2 of my favorite songs. Brilliance.

Yes. Mine was just a lineup I could think of when I was drunk that night.
Listened to OK Computer while driving home in the rain from a friends cabin. Rolling through the countryside with it playing was quite nice.

It's interesting that you mentioned how Ashley and Avril are respected for writing their own music even though they both suck at it. But honestly, they are the only ones who d othat in the pop world so maybe thats why they gain so much respect and are considered 'good'. I hate Ashley Simpson with a passion tho. And Avril...well the only things she's got going for her is that she's hot and Canadian.
How much does Avril actually write? I ask because I know for a fact that Butch Walker (formerly of The Marvelous 3) has written several songs for her.

Jeff Tweedy is the best American songwriter of the last 10 years. But some might call me biased on that account.
Good list, btw. I'd probably also add James Mercer from The Shins. Very good singer, very good songwriter, very good musician.

Tom Cruise doesn't think scientology is crazy. Anything Tom Cruise thinks must be true.

I wouldn't say he's a musical genius, he's just very creative and goodat what he does. But the Scientology part must attribute to his crazyness. A rational human being doesn't believe in that trash.
