I'm pretty sure overall productivity in the States was down today - USOPEN.org had free online coverage live. 12 of us watching here, talked to my cousin and her entire marketing group was watching it in someone's cube, etc.

Hope Mediate goes on to win some big tournaments in the near future, he was f**IKin stellar. He just gave Tiger that one opening...

Was in class all day but a kid had online updates on his cell phone and was giving the class updates throughout the round.

WTOP Breaking News: Tiger Woods will miss rest of golf season

Jun 18th
Tiger Woods will miss rest of golf season, says a person familiar with the decision. Tiger won the U.S. Open on Monday.

But Retief Goosen says
"Nobody really knows if he was just showing off or if he was really injured, and I believe if he was really injured he would not have played. It just seemed when he hit bad shots his knee was in pain and on his good shots he wasn't in pain" he said.

Those remarks led to a query as to whether he thought Tiger exaggerated the effects of his knee problem.

"I think so! I think so!" said Goosen. "You see, when he made the putts and he went down on his knees and shouting 'Yeah' his knee wasn't sore.

How do you even injure your knee by playing golf?

You're constantly twisting it and applying pressure during driving and shooting. I'd imagine it's alot of sharp strains that just made it worse and worse for him.

Especially if you swing right-handed, there is a great deal of pressure on your left knee. Your left foot remains planted during the follow through.

Correct VR, combine that with the amount of torque that Tiger puts into his swing, especially in thick rough, and it's no wonder he has knee ligament damge.

Theres a chance (just conjecture) that he could have hurt it doing something else anyways and just exacerbated it by continueing to play on it. I.e. weight room, trail runner, futbol....

It's amazing - he had a torn ACL ligament and stress fractures in his leg. That's enough to shut people down period. Apparently he had the cartilage cleaned out, like Phillip Rivers in last year's playoffs, then just went for it. Tiger's now going to be out for 6 months or so..

Like has been said, lots of torque and pressure. Take a look at a slow mo shot of Tiger hitting from the rough or even trying to drive on a long hole.

If you've never done it dont knock it. By done it I mean played 72 holes, not 18. Its a very taxing and demanding sport.

Just saw on ESPN that he injured it jogging after the British (I think) open last summer.

Go maire tu Padraig!

I thought he'd bottled it when he put the tee shot at 18 into the bunker, and I really thought he'd bottled it when he hit the bunker shot fat and into the rough. Fortunate lie for the third shot. He had the putter working though, and I was glad to see him pull it out.

I think it's drastically unfair for people not giving Harrington more credit for his two Major wins(*) this year.

Congrats to Pedraig!

He's funny. He only gets close when Tiger isn't playing. The rest of the time, he's like the Spanish Monty. :D
