Too bad it wasn't US vs. The World, I would have liked to hear an Aussie! Aussie! Aussie! chant.

Golf is a leisure activity at best. Doesn't deserve to be classified as a sport with such a physically demanding athletic event like baseball.

You've obviously never played golf.

Joke.

And yes I have played golf. But it is not a sport that requires much athleticism, more of a willingness to endure the frustration till you break through that period when you start playing where you are absolute shit.

Tiger is in the hunt for 8 PGA wins in a row.. He one his second match today, in the match play format.. He only trails Byron Nelson for the consecutive PGA win streak..

Was at the final round of the Nissan Open, had a suite on the 18th green. :D There was an open bar with no one checking IDs, so I had myself about 4 Budweisers, 2 cokes and rums, and a glass of JD whiskey. I was a very happy underaged boy, needless to say. :p

When I went down and was watching Ernie Els on the 15th hole, I was standing on the right side of the fairway and he hit his shot into the rough about 2-3 feet away from where I was standing. Seeing one of your favorite golfers in the flesh like that was absolutely surreal. Weirdly, one of the guys standing next to me who was wearing a Celtic shirt started talking to Ernie in what I can only assume was Afrikaans. Ernie was really taken aback at first, gave him the weirdest look ever, then started mingling with him for a few seconds before regaining his concentration about the tough shot he had ahead of him. Ernie was a total class act. Two groups after that came the leading group, featuring Phil Mickelson, I decided to switch to the other side of the fairway to watch him off the tee and, what do you know, he hits a hook into the rough about 2-3 feet directly in front of me. :D

What a flippin tournament, that ending and the playoff were absolutely insane. For Howell to recover from hitting the tee shot on 10 (the second playoff hole) onto the concrete cart path to forcing the third playoff hole, that was ridiculous.

Good story! I go to the Byron Nelson Golf Tournament at Las Colinas everyyear.. 3 years ago, my then 3 year old son went with me and while watching Tiger in the early morning on the driving range, he walked up to my son, and gave him one of his Nike 1 "Tiger" balls.. Pretty awesome.. I have it in a plastic box frame in his room..

That's absolutely ridiculous. I was completely stoked about the chance to see Tiger at Riviera, I was pretty disappointed when he dropped out. But obviously that streak means a lot to him, so I obviously understood.

I hope your son understands how lucky a kid he is.

I really love the Nelson. They put on a good event, and of course, the Pavillion is always fun..;)

I just remembered one more thing I absolutely have to share about seeing Phil Mickelson. His shot was pretty damn close to the rope that was keeping the fans off the course, so when he got close to his ball, his caddie came over to hold the rope back. Standing right on the rope was a really scary looking woman who had to be anorexic and was wearing sunglasses and a wool cap with, I kid you not, red horns. So Phil finally reaches his ball, and this woman is clearly either clueless or drunk because she isn't moving, despite the caddie asking her about three or four times. So Phil yells, "Hey Satan! Back off the ball!" And he's got the widest grin ever, and the caddie and most of the other people watching, including myself, are absolutely cracking up. This woman was absolutely livid and her boyfriend had to restrain her from going after Phil. Oh my God, that was the greatest thing ever!

That's funny.. Phil is a character...I have another story from the same day. On the Par 3 16th hole, it is a huge green with a ton of people sitting and watching as all the golfers come through. I strategically worked our way next to the rope as the golfers head off to the next box. Well, it was a very hot day that day, my kid was tired and laid down on the grass next to me. He fell asleep. As Mark Calcavecchia is coming off the green, he see my kid asleep and reaches to give him his golf ball. I make a move to wake him up, and Calc stops me and says shhhh. and puts the ball in his lap.. Several people were all watching the antic, and it was a pretty cool moment. A pretty big day for Jake..:)
