Yeah, there are definitely matches that the big name players give up, especially when they are close to a bigger tournament soon. They were discussing that during one of the broadcasts of one of the major tournaments, I forget which.
Davydenko has been the main focus. Betting on one of his matches was suspended after suspicious activity, and then the "not trying hard enough". I hardly think Davydenko would throw a match while in the spotlight for these accusation - but he had something ridiculous like 4 double faults in quick succession.

It is infinitesimally better to sit at home and rest rather than make a joke of the game.
See, but I think if you don't show up to play in certain tournaments where you are one of the main draws, you may have to play a serious fine...

Can't you withdraw from any tournaments you want to though?
I think they are making a rule soon where ATP players will have to play a certain percentage of the big name tournaments, or risk fines. I don't know if this will help or hurt potential match-fixing/going easy. On one hand, your ranking is now at stake, but on the other hand, you don't really want to be there and losing will let you go home, train etc.

I think that might be the case with GSs and Master Series events but most of these allegations come up in smaller tournaments where I don't think this is the case. In any case, you can always withdraw citing injury, no-one can deny you that*saha*.

So Davydenko gets his money back. I wonder if ATP is trying to distance themselves from the scandals, because I have no clue what evidence they could use in the first place.

Been a great Aussie Open to watch so far, and now the world's 1 and 2 are both out. Tsonga just ripped Nadal apart, one of the best displays I've seen in recent times. And Djokovic made up for that horrendous US Open collapse by beating Federer. It should be a great final.

Was sitting in a pub over here in melbourne watching the game last night, great entertainment and kept everyones interest. May be the bitter in me but for once i was happy to see some new faces in the final.

Djokovic is getting on my nerves(ala Shreakapova) with his gamesmanship including those infinite bounces which he does before serving. Tsonga is quite the player, he just needs to stay pumped throughout the match, good for the future of men's tennis after all these years of Fed domination.

Agreed. I wish they'd make Djokovic cut that shit out. It's just annoying more than anything.

both, Nadal and Djokovic take too much time. Nadal got a warning in the semis against Tsonga, tough, but not more than that
for Roger, I'm happy he is assured to stay nr.1 till Miami at least
tournament maximum points- points to defend Roger-Rafa-Novak
Rotterdam 250 0 0 (55) 110
Dubai 300 300 75 75
Indian Wells 500 5 500 350
Key Biscaine 500 75 125 500
best case Roger Rafa Novak +920 +745 +515
worst case Roger Rafa Novak -370 -740 -1025
i.e. in the worst case Roger could be passed in Miami, but only if Rafa wins everything and Roger loses everything. Tough, Roger has less points to defend and should quite increase his advantage

Rafa beat the joker in straight sets today to become the first man to win both the French Open and the Artois Championships in the same year. Close match but Rafa has added so many more weapons to his armoury this year that you expect him to step up a gear when required.
I really fancy him to win Wimbledon this year.

Same here. Nadal has been knockin on Federer's door the last few years, and mentally speaking Nadal has to be the most confident in the world. Federer's had a shaky year by his standards, and I think Nadal can do it.

Thirded. Not an avid fan of tennis but I've been watching Nadal this week and he seems to be hitting form at the right time. It's hard to bet against Federer at Wimbledon, but if anyone can stop the Fed Express, then it's definitely Nadal.
btw, anyone know why Nalbandian was so shit yesterday?

That is Nalbandian for you. About 5 years back, I thought he was likely to have a breakthrough as a #1 as Federer.

A play on his name and his antics at times, one of Djokovic's nicknames.
