I have not seen enough of Federer to know if he get 50/50 calls in his favor.
Unlike basketball, there are challenges now in tennis to check whether the ball was in/out, so it's almost impossible to be biased against someone and help the other player because of it (while in basketball if a foul is called - it's a foul regardless of if there was any contact or not).

Canas ends Federer winning streak

a few more wins and he would've gotten the record.

That was a fantastic final. Those two are so evenly matched right now -- one of them would get on a roll and I'd think the other couldn't beat him, and then vice versa.

One of the best matches I've ever seen.
I really thought Nadal blew it though. 2 times with a break, but couldn't convert either. It's only a matter of time before he gets a Wimbledon though, he improves every single year.

Can people now realize that Federer is not impregnable and the first really good rival he has had is pushing him all the way.
Rod Laver is still the best ever and Sampras still comes second(having had players like Wilander/McEnroe/Lendl/Courier/Becker/Courier in his early years).
I think Federer will have to dominate the next 3-4 years if he is to be recognized as the best ever(dominating one-dimensional players like Roddick or Hewitt does not really count), all the upcoming players like Djokovic,Baghdatis,Murray,Berdych are neither one-dimensional nor mentally weak.

A 7'2'' unknown American guy has just taken the first set in a game against Federer. His serve is like 150 mph.

Djokovic blew it, tbh. He could have been 2 sets up had he a bit more poise. He'll learn that soon enough. I like the kid, he played to the crowd well, seemed into it, etc. Roddick is going to be pushed aside again.
It must just suck to be a tennis player in this era, knowing you'll never win a major. Nadal is holding down clay, and Federer is doing the rest. And those 2 are even pushing each other on their respective surfaces. It'll be interesting to see how Djokovic plays at the French and Wimbledon, respectively.

Djokovic is great, and he's still twnety years old. He's going to give that Federer-Nadal rivalry a push. Everyone else though needs to catch up because the quality of Tennis these three players are playing is out of this world.

What's scary to me is that Federer can smash Sampras's record this next season. And he'll still only be 27. He could conceivably keep winning 2-3 titles a season till he's 31, 32. I don't know what tennis' retirement age is, but commentators always call players over 32 "around for awhile/old" so I'm guessing that's about it. But Roger is fitter than most, and has not suffered a major injury. He could win another 8 or 9 Slams...

Sampras won his last grand slam when he was 34 I believe. Also, I think it's been firmly established that Federed is the greatest player to ever pick up that racket. That doubt has been put to bed. He's playing peak tennis right now. There's nobody in the world that can beat him, even in a series of matches.
What bothers me is his girlfriend. Every time I see her, I get the douche-chills. Behind that wicked smile I can just sense she's thinking on how to use Roger's cash.

I think she's spent most of his money on food.
