An interesting recap (in French sorry) concerning what happened to these players since. Some are still under the spotlights but the others ?

Bernard Diomede
Stephane Guivarch
lol.
I think the articles are pretty fair with them nonetheless. I didn't realise how much of a lucky man was Diomede (when you consider that Lama did not play).

hey has Eric Cantona every played for France? I watch him played for Manchester United before and he was so famous and good when he was there but I can't recall any games he played for france.

He played and scored a goal in the infamous November 17th 1993 match against Bulgaria that saw France miss out on the qualification for WC'94...

as everyone knows, his problems were always relational. he drove guy roux nuts, and even at marseille he was the house problem child, and that takes some doing.

I always felt that Platini understood him best.
In a way he used that aggression that he had and converted into an end product. I think he understood his fiery Italian roots as good as anyone.
I personally feel only him and Fergie at Man U have ever gotten the best out of Cantona.

Why in the hell did Guivarch and Dugarry play in the final. I think that was just dumb. Even tho Trez and Henry were just babies, they were still better.
So how did Guivarch end his career?? And wasnt Diomede with L'pool until about 3-4 years ago??

Sadly Henry and Trez were just kids at that time and were not ready for the big stage.
Their date was Euro 2000.
Besides Henry was a left winger back then. Only Wenger had the balls to play him in the centre. Trezeguet started the games against Paraguay and Denmark.
Dugarry wasn't that bad a player in 1998. Although he pretty much flopped whilst at Barca and Milan - he was held in high regard by many in France for his goalscoring with Bordeaux.
Guivarch? Meh. He was top scorer in Ligue 1 that season, so it would have been silly not to have included him in some way. Strangely enough he was the best France had at the time.
France was pretty much calling out for top striker, and later Trezeguet would be it. Jacquet pretty much went for a 5 man midfield with Thuram and Liza bombing foward - and Deschamps and Petit doing the sweeping job. He played to the team's strengths by employing those strongest within the setup to adapt to a certain system.
Barthez
Thuram---Desailly---Lebouef---Lizarazu
Karembeu----Deschamps---Petit
Zidane---Djorkaeff
Dugarry/Guivarc'h
It was the midfield and defence that won it for France. At the time, that back four was probably one of the best in the world.

Although he pretty much flopped whilst at Barca and Milan - he was held in high regard by many in France for his goalscoring with Bordeaux.he was also zizou's best friend and apparently an important part of the clubhouse atmosphere. and he wasn't bad at all on the field.
Guivarch? Meh. He was top scorer in Ligue 1 that season, so it would have been silly not to have included him in some way. Strangely enough he was the best France had at the time.there are always cases like that. just because they seem like silly choices now doesn't mean they were then. take karembeu. nowadays he's best known for being adriana's husband, but in those days he was a monster. the boss.

Wasnt it Blanc that started, not Lebouf??suspended. but you're point is well taken; counting lolo that's gotta be one of the greatest back lines of all time.

Guivrac'h was a joke in the final the guy could have had a hattrick easy instead he spurned some goledn chances. If there was someone actually competent attacking the goal the score might have much much worse than 3-0.

Ah balls yeah. Blanc started over Franck in the final due to his card against Croatia. I just used the final 98 lineup to illustrate my point.
