he'll have to be better than Stevie on the right. otherwise i'd still play momo/didi and xabi in the middle. that is, if the transfer goes thru. still, i guess a plus having someone on the right who can slot in when needed and not have to nurture. I still want someone we can nurture, but its nice to have cover for every position.

Supposedly its only for 500,000 pounds which isn't too bad, but he's 29..............

I read an article where Rafa stated that because of midweek games in 5 of thenext 6 weeks, he'd like to start a bit more of a rotation. He talked about rotating Xabi and Stevie in the middle. This rightsided player may help him do that.

I actually like that Rafa is strengthening the side with experience.

Long schedule this season of course.

So who the hell is Victor?
We know he's 29, that's not a problem as long as he can move and fit with the guys in Rafa's plans. But what else?

Where is our Spanish contingent on the spot?

Read more here:

http://www.deportivo-la-coruna.com/squad/victor.html

"Real Madrid youth product VÍCTOR SÁNCHEZ made 65 appearances for the biggest and richest club from Spain and was a fundamental part in their Liga-winning team in 1997. But after three seasons in their first team he was asked to leave and the winger joined Racing Santander in 1998. He scored 12 goals for them in the season 1998/1999 and his performances convinced both Deportivo president Lendoiro and coach Irureta, resulting in a July 1999 transfer to Galicia.

Víctor Sánchez is a very fast, skilful player who can play on both wings. But at Deportivo he has been a starter at the right wing and rarely was left out of the team in the past five seasons. His 'worst' season was the 2001/2002 one when he still played 29 Liga matches, and in total he has played more than 150 for Deportivo. In addition, he scores a good amount of goals per season (42 in the Primera División) and always has been among the players with most assists in the Spanish Liga."

He was a fixture in their squad until this season, where he has only 6 appearances. Not sure if he fell out of favor or was injured.

With Morientes, Fowler and now Victor all we need is a time machine and we would be the team to beat 1999. ;)

Is he right-footed?

I got a fever. And the only prescription... is more crosses!

The Victor deal is dead (http://icliverpool.icnetwork.co.uk/0500liverpoolfc/0100news/tm_objectid=16644767%26method=full%26siteid=50061%26headline=benitez%2dfoiled%2din%2dbid%2dto%2dland%2dwinger-name_page.html) in the water, seemingly.

I get tired of media speculation first off. Then we don't know if this is a club ploy to 'use the media' to pressure Depor into making a committment and get cash before the window closes.

Dont hold your breath until you see someone in a red shirt posing with Rafa.
Then ask "Who in the hell is that?...:)

Victor is a very good and successful player who has fallen of Depor's starting lineup only due to injuries.

He's a right winger or inner right, not specially good at anything but decent enough at everything. He's hard working and can defend. If I'm well informed you need someone for the right wing and I think Victor would have fit the EPL.

But now the deal is really unlikely.

"Asked to leave"?? Is that just akward phrasing, or was there some controversy?

Poor translation --- should have said "deemed excess to requirements"

Can somebody clarify if we actually signed Viktor or not? I saw one article that listed him as a signing, but just read another article today that said that it fell through at the last minute.

(sorry, but i was away for a couple of days so i'm kinda clueless)

The deal fell through, apparently, because Depotivo were trying to pull a fast one and refusing to give Victor what he felt were upaid wages. Looks as if the Depotivo president is a dab hand at such three-card tricks.
