A while back...a long while back...I noticed an Amici's Pizzeria (http://www.amicis.com/)sign in a window in Downtown San Jose (http://www.amicis.com/location_dtsanjose.htm). I have been eagerly watching the website to see when it would open. It's due to open in May!!! Woo hoo!! This is my favorite pizza place! I can't wait!

The Pollo Pizza is my favorite.

So, what's your favorite pizza place in the Bay Area?

Another place I like to get pizza is Il Fornaio. I like their Pizza Margherita.

But I think I like that most for the company and to sit at the counter by the cooks where it's nice and toasty warm. The pizza is good, but I think it's more the combination of the food, atmosphere, and company. ;)

I haven't been there for years... but a place I used to love was Pauline's Pizza in SF on Valencia, near Market. Not traditional, more like California-ized, but really tasty.

Then there's a little walk-up joint on 21st St. between Valencia and Mission where you can get it by the slice. Fantastic, but only about 4 seats. Can't remember the name, but there's always a line.

And finally... Escape from New York on Haight. Started by the same folks who had a similar joint in Portland. By the slice or by the pie. Added bonus of about 100 autographed celebrity photos.

There you have it. The complete San Francisco Pizza review. Kinda.

When I hear New York and pizza in the same sentence...er thread...I know I must go there!

the legendary Zachary's on College in Rockridge, Oakland.

X-treme Pizza (several locations in East Bay) is really good as well...

In SF: either North Beach Pizza (preferrably the original location) or Pasquale's.

In Marin: either Red Boy Pizza or Stefano's (the latter of which was - perhaps still is - owned by futbol-crazy Brazilians! :D).

In Santa Cruz: Pizza My Heart.

Best chain: used to be Shakey's, hands down, but nowadays probably Round Table.

Za's Trattoria???

We've never been. I had no idea that it might be good. We used to consider going there, but it's next to the closest sushi joint (well, there's another on Grand, but the service sucks...), and we always go to the sushi joint.

What's the price range?

How can we have gotten 11 posts in to this without anyone mentioning Nizario's in SF? There's one on Geary in the Inner Richmond and one in the Castro. Do yourself a favor and go there right away.

Quick takes here:

Zachary's in Berkeley on Solano Ave (recommended by another bigsoccer poster!!! Rapids fan of all people, but a former Bay Area resident...)

Pomodoro's on Kearny in downtown San Francisco! Too bad they are open only on the weekdays. A bit on the gourmet side but great eats!

North Beach and Amici's also get some cred in my book!

Amici's is good, but way over priced. I have always been a fan of Golden Boy in North Beach. You walk out of Gino and Carlo's, after a few beers, and there are those recangle pizza's in the window looking so tasty.

rocco's is good, but greasy.

amici's is verrrry gooooood.

zackary's is the best.

and here's a vote for Blondies ... but it's best to eat a slice after a day of hunting through Rasputin's and Amoeba in Berkeley. they just go together.

I've never eaten pizza at Grande's actually. But Grande's is a great place to eat!
