Layer Cake is an awesome movie. I just watched it the other night and it's so good. Daniel Craig plays the part of the main character so well. It's just a cool ass movie. I have to watch it once more though because I didn't quite unerstand everything that happened in it seing as its complicated. Really good movie though.

Agreed. Welcome to the layer cake.

I was thinking, since we already have a movie thread, whyy don't we have our own mini academy awards? For those who've seen a reasonable amount of movies, including those actually nominated, what are your opinions on best picture?

Here's my rundown;

Best Picture in order:

1. Syriana
2. A History of Violence
3. Good Night and Good Luck

Of the 2005 movies I have seen (although I've been too broke to go the cinema as much as I would like this year), my top 3 would be:

1. History of Violence
2. Serenity
3. Batman Begins

I'm seriously hoping to see Syrianna and GN&GL soon, mind

Batman Begins is also up there with the best and my favorites, and in my opinion, Syriana might just be the most important film of our time.

Have you seen The Constant Gardner? That movie would have something to say about Syriana being the most recent important film of our day. Not to take anything away from Syriana because I haven't seen it yet.

This is a little bit off subject, but a few weeks ago I saw Grande Illusion by Jean Renoir. It was like 2:00am in the morning but I was absolutely fascinated by it. If you like old movies (1937) you should check this out.

2. Fantastic Four
3. Robots

I know, I know, it's sad. But with 3 little 'uns 6 and under, what can ya do?

Actually I head W&G was quite good. I've seen all the shorts, loved all of them. I still have to see the movie.

That is indeed one of the greats, but its a bit different from most war movies. I recommend finding the Criterion version if you can. They really cleaned it up a lot. Actually I assume the cleaned up version is the one on TV these days.

It's a quality movie, probably top 5 from what I saw last year that came out in 2005.

I saw V for Vendetta last night. It was a really good movie. I thought Natalie Portman was really good in it too. :)

Has anyone seen The Libertine? I want to download it but I can't find a torrent for it. Can someone direct me to a good torrent site please.
