How was Clerks 2 Billy? Can't believe Smith dared to colorize Clerks and release it this year. The poor guy must be desperate to regain his cult figure status.

Did you see the flame war he got into with fanboys on the Rotten Tomatoes forum? Guy is a total shell of his old self lately, desperately trying to convince the world that he isn't a sellout. I mean, if you're going to sellout, nothing wrong with it per se, just don't be in denial about it. Although FWIW, everyone I talked to who saw Clerks 2 loved it.
Harold and Kumar was literally the story of me and my roommate during most of college, except substitute beer for pot (never touched the stuff, personally) and Taco Bell for White Castle. ********ing ripoff of our story. :D

Wolf Creek was shown on Saturday night over here as part of the re-launch of FilmFour (a movie channel that has now gone free-to-air), and having heard rave reviews for it from friends, people at work, the radio and even on Red Issue I decided to watch it last night when I noticed it was on again.
What a stinking pile of poo. I could elaborate but the film doesn't deserve it.

I liked it, not the greatest of movies and certainly not a comedic gem, but I liked it. Mallrats is probably my favorite Smith movie. And Smith is still a sellout.
Last night I watched Nicholar Roeg's Don't Look Now. For anybody who hasn't seen this, it's a masterpiece, an absolute masterpiece of cinema. Donald Sutherland and July Christie give two of the best performances I've ever seen in film. If you're looking for a good 70's suspense, horror thriller, you should check this out.

I think you should become more educated about cinema in general and brush up on your classics; American and International.

Heh... I assume you realize the point of that movie is that it's obviously a cheesefest, right? This thing has been a B-movie classic since last summer, spawning blogs, t-shirts, comics, and other parodies. The allure is that "its so bad its great" feel to it.

Obviously, and that's my point, I doubt anybody who's got enough brain cells will realize it's not a serious movie. However, I want to educate my peers about cinema every chance I get, The vast majority of them have absolutely no clue about how great it can be, and if I can recommend a couple of movies that will open up their eyes I will.
On that note, I'll watch Snakes on a Plane when it comes to tv, definitely. This is the definitive Soul Plane.

haha yes because Snakes on a Plane will be great, and Harold and Kumar is defenetly the intellectual comedy I refered to it as. (i hope your picking up the sarcasm here lol)

Funny how you commented on the late releases in the States, as I doubt we will see Clerks 2 here for a while. Even at that, it will only get a small release in one or two cinemas imo, as the original is virtually unheard of by the average moviegoer over here. Ireland's range of cinemas outside of the big name ones that nearly only show Hollywood releases is... well... dire, at best. Has to be one of the worst in Western Europe, tbh. Oh well, guess I'll be watching it on pirate or download.
That said, I don't know what to expect. Don't think I really want to know either, as I also tend to avoid trailers, 'making of' programmes, etc like the plague until I have seen the movie. I have only seen that youtube trailer (avoided the short clips the released until after, too) and nothing else.

Ever try to explain quite what 'cinema' is to somebody who has no real idea (no offense to those who don't, I don't mean to sound ignorant and am sure there is plenty of stuff you know a good deal about that I don't), but find yourself a little stuck for words? Stick them in a room with a big screen (50"+) and surround sound, and put on Repulsion.
Also funny how 'ye olde wacky' came up here, too. Most of my mates have a TERRIBLE taste in movies (terrible to the extent where all you have to do from getting them to watch a movie is telling them that it is in subtitles, black & white, or shot on 8mm (their complaint being that 'it looks homemade & thus shit  ), but if you ever stick somebody in front of a TV while stoned and stick on something with good cinematography and/or dialogue and you keep the bastards happy real easy. Even those who feel the need to moan tend to be too wasted to act upon it. :D

sorry to hear of the dire situations concerning theaters there. I lived in a small town for some time and we never had anything close to a big theater. I always had to beg my father to drive me to the city.
Anyway, I also like to avoid movie trailer and especially tv spots. You should see how marketing deptarments have screwed up The Descent over here. They're basically giving away all the scares and all that is fun about the movie with their tv spots. It's dispicable. It oppens next week, and although I've watched it five times already, I'll go to the cinema to see it on the big screen.

I hope that is in a 'Starship Troopers' way and not a 'White Men Can't Jump' sense of the term "so bad it's good", because that aura has completely falled off the latter in recent years. I still question whether Starship Troopers was intended to be a comedy, though (honestly) - if it was, then it genuinely was one of the finest of the 90s imo. Kind of like how The Cable Guy was well ahead of it's time (which it was... if that came out this year it would be a hit).

I think I've got two/three mates heading over here in a few minutes. If they ever show up (thought they would be here half an hour ago) then I am coercing them into watching either The Descent or Clerks.
