Last year, what was it? Gay Marriage, or was that the year before? It was actually right before the last national election. Drum up a polarizing non-issue into a political firestorm because you think that popular outrage is going to get you votes. It's the same exact thing this time.
While I understand that having a bunch of people in the US without documentation is a problem (and one that should be addressed, as it affects both national security and those people's lives), it's being drummed into a "crisis" for political reasons. Where were the manifestations of the "crisis" before this year?? Why didn't Bush come storming into office after serving as governer of Texas addressing this problem?? But now, suddenly, we need national guard troops on the border immediately (just in time for the fall elections).
Our politicians certainly are lovely, tapping into our homopobia and xenophobia right before elections. . .

What do you guys think about phone tapping and collecting records about most of the phone calls within the US for the past several years?

As long as they catch the bad guys and disregard anything and everything that I say, then I'm ok with it.

This isn't even about applicants and speed of applications right now, though. It's about whether we are going to allow ourselves to essentially be invaded by another country's peasant population (Fact: 99% of illegals are Mexican, this is not a race issue, don't try to make it one) and allow them to piss all over our laws and sovereignty when they come here, then demand entitlements like they deserve them somehow for breaking our laws and flaunting them in our faces.
But it just might be part of the equation.

In other people's minds maybe, most certainly not mine. You could be Mexican, European, Martian, I don't give a damn, if you are here illegally you have broken the law and violated our sovereignty and I don't want you here until our leaky borders are fixed, then I'll begin discussing a guest-worker thing.

Certainly, you can fault the individuals crossing the border to take jobs in the US; they are, in fact, breaking the law.
However, there is an economy in the US that demands labor. At the same time, the US is not allowing enough labor in to meet that demand. So, people come in illegally and fill those jobs. If labor was not coming illegally, we would have to let more people in legally -- you can see by low unemployment numbers that these people are not only not stressing our workforce, they are essential to it. It seeems that we really don't want to let in enough people legally (which puzzles me to no end). I'm not an economist, but the only sense I can make of it, is that utilizing labor at below-industry-standard wages strengthens the US economy. So, however damaging allowing people to immigrate illegally is to health and education systems, and so forth, it's actually beneficial and necessary to our economy (at least with the way immigration is set up now).
I think you and I would agree that part of the solution is that our system should let the appropriate number of people come in legally. However much it might hurt the US economy, I think it's essential to the rule of law and would actually benefit immigrants. I just think it's too simplistic to blame only the individuals when the whole system is screwed up -- and to only blame "them" when it's "our" system that's basically creating this problem. The other thing is, we NEED the people that are already here working those jobs; like it or not, they are a necessary part of our economy. Even it were fiscally feasible to deport them (ignoring of course the horror that this process would be from a humanitarian standpoint), our economy would ultimately suffer for it.
Hopefully these yo-yos running our country will finally develop a realistic plan for border control that lets in enough people and allows our economy to stabilize with legal labor-- but I certainly won't be holding my breath for that.

This is what I have to say: "Jesus was black, Ronald Reagan was the devil, and the government is lying about 9/11". Kudos to who can tell me where that quote is from.

I wouldn't worry too much if I were you... If Lebanon Syria and Iran all attacked Israel the outcome would be simple... In a matter of days there'd be 3 less Arab countries on the planet..;)

Are you intentionally trying to get Iranian Monitor to invade your forum? He has a little alarm that goes off anytime anyone mocks Iranian military might.

We should blow all the shitheads into a glass factory. That would solve the problems.
Israel military is better than ours. They will probably be in control of Lebanon in about a week.
