Actually I think one of the reasons Bush won, at least the first time other than by cheating Gore, was the name factor. You know the average billy jim joe is going to vote for who he knows and has heard of. They have heard of the HW so why not vote for W who has the same name.

What are you guys' positions on gun control? That's somehting I'm interested in hearing about.

My favorite part of the speech, during the ten minutes that I could stomach, was the shot of Hillary Clinton subtly rolling her eyes and shaking her head during one of the applause breaks. I could read her thoughts perfectly.

"What a dumbass. Oh wait, the cameras on me. I can't look like I'm dissing the president. Yes I can. What a dumbass."

She's not a very nice person. Hell, I'd vote for Oprah before Hillary Clinton. :D

:(

This is why I don't like to engage in politics discussions. It's not that I don't like to exchange ideas and opinions, it's just that I'm easily offended by sweeping generalizations regarding my apparent lack of intelligence.

Come now, I wasn't insulting anyones intelligence, just their inability to learn about the candidates and their positions in favor of voting on name alone. :D

And now that Oprah has decided that truth does matter, she won't support Bush.

Bush won the last election for one simple reason. When it came down to it, in their heart of hearts, the voters on the fence felt that they would be safer if Bush were president. (Now is the threat real, well...)

That and, sadly, winning over the millions of Americans who wanted to "crack down" on gay marriage. But I agree that getting Americans to perceive that they are in grave danger and only Bush could save them was a huge coup.

I don't like guns. I don't need guns. I like that I can go buy one to protect myself, my family, and my house if I want to though. On the other hand, do people really need Uzi's and shit? No.

I'd like people who use guns to commit crimes to face a zero tolerance policy though. Rob a liquor store and use a gun? 20-to-life, first time offense. That's it.

Until violent criminals are unable to procure firearms, I'd like to be able to procure one to protect myself.

It may seem that completely disarming the general populace is one method of achieving this, but if you know you're history, that doesn't always work out best.

Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos.

LOL... you know, I bought "A Million Little Pieces" about a year and a half ago, and remembered thinking to myself as I read it that if the guy was really as ********ed up on drugs as he claimed to be, how would he remember half the stuff that was going on?

Well, figures this would happen the one time Oprah doesn't pick a stereotypical chick book. Always annoys me to walk into B&N and see her latest flavor of the month book proudly displayed up front with "Oprah's Book Club" stickers on every copy to court the people who can't decide which books to read their own damn selves. Family Guy did a great parody with Stewie reading "East Of Eden".

And now that she's flip-flopped on deciding that truth does matter, she says she voted for Kerry, before voting for Bush.

Hey now, people need assault weapons to defend themselves against today's modern super animals, such as the flying squirrel, and the electric eel. ;)

My position on gun control is very simple. Everyone should be able to have as many guns in whatever sizes that they want. And when I say everyone, I mean everyone; children, blind people, SirManchester.

Now, I also believe that there should be a total ban on ammunition, except for law enforcement personnel. The beauty of my plan is that you can still have a gat stuck in your waistband and look cool, but the most you can do is pistolwhip someone with it.

I have only one question for you: Cake or death??

Uh, cake please."

"Well, we're out of cake! We only had three bits and we didn't expect such a rush. So what do you want?"

"Well, so my choice is 'or death’? I’ll have the chicken then, please.

:D

This may be sad but if she were really hot, I'd probably vote for her. Of course, if she were really hot, she would never have had to work so hard to achieve anything.

As you all know im only 15 and dont have that much experience, but I have some and I'm Republican living in Democrat land. Motter on WMD's I cant blame Bush for thinking that they had some. Saddam used WMD gasses in the past against his own people and had several tunnel systems, and wouldnt let our inspectors in. That is just a red flag saying we have WMD's. It turns out they didnt have them but honestly what else were we suppose to think? I dont think in the world we live in now we can just dismiss ideas that people might have WMD's. We have to be on the offencesive just as Bush said last night and his adress. Also we cant wait for them to attack us again we have to attack them.
Iran- Use Diplomacy. We cant afford another war effort like Iraq unless we get the whole world on board, and if war is nessicary which it could come to we have to get countries like France and Germany on board. They cant develop WMD's and i dont believe for one minute that they want peaceful nuclear programs.
Bush's State of the Union- I liked this speech, he didnt come out gun blazing like he has in the past, rather he tried to unite the two partys. He appealed to both party's and the dems even stoop and applouded. He was able to crack jokes and let the dems have there joke on him about not passing his bill. I agree whe he says we have to put our differences aside and unite to be succsesful.
A Few stats I was happily suprised by-
The US is making more jobs then Japan and the E.U. combined
The deficit will be cut in half by 2009
Crime rate is lowest since the 70's
Kids using drugs is down 17%
The rate of teenage mothers has been falling since 2001 and there are less and less abortions every year.

All and All Bush's speech last night was kind of a PR and ratings stunt. Im the last one to bash Bush but thats exactly what he needed. He had to start the year of on a good footing which he did, and he had to re assure people that there cause is noble which he did. Bush's ratings shoudl rise steadly, and by the end of the year I wouldnt be suprised if there arent any major set backs in Iraq, that he'll have the signifigant majority of the country on his side.

I'm so relieved he's on top of that one. Whew.

prymetyme, I noticed you live in Laguna Beach, I lived in Lake Forest for a few years before moving to Maryland. I know how it must be for you living in La La Land. The only advice I can give you, is to keep an open mind about most things, but don't waver on your core beliefs.

I don't blame Bush entirely for us not finding WMD's in Iraq. I just felt that he compromised the support he had from many people by basically using the fact that there were WMD's as the main reason we were invading to disarm a horrible dictator. After we came up empty in our search for them, the Bush presidency was never going to fully recover from that. He might win a political battle here and there, and have some ups and downs, but he's never going to be viewed as a very successful president...

As long as Howard Dean is Chairman of the Democratic Party, I'm not hopeful of a candidate that I would consider voting for getting nominated in the next electoral process. I'm not sure who is running for the Republicans in the next election, I just hope to god that it's not Jeb Bush, but a clear departure from the direction the country has been on the past few years... it's been almost Empirical. :(
