Personally I feel we need him for 1 more season. He could be used for 50 odd minutes a game. A bit like DB right now (ok I know it's a diff. class). But I feel that Pires is still quality once in a while and his linking with Henry is exceptional. Those two work great together (minus the pen.) They read each other's mind a bit like DB and IW in the old days. Besides we have no pure playmaker to fill that role. If only Pires could defend ( I feel that the broken leg still affects him mentally) Wenger would have resigned him like Freddy. Freddy is the weakest player amongst the old guards and suprisingly, he's the only one with a new contract.

We don't have anyone to replace him with at the moment?

Hmmm I don't know. Part of me thinks we should let go. Hes getting old and is stunting the growth of some of the exceptional youth we have in that position - Ryan Smith to name one. Part of me thinks "HOLD ON" look at the skills he does have and the way he can change a game. He may be 31 but he still has vision on a par with Bergkamp.

I think we should sign him for another season. He still has an eye for goal, although I agree his playing time will have to be reduced, he can't do 90 minutes week in week out any more.

P.S. He had a cruciate knee ligament injury, not a broken leg.

I'd love him to stay another year. Whenever he comes off the bench I feel he can get us a goal. Okay - he's lost that half a yard of pace that took him past players on the wing, but he still has great instincts in front of goal and he rarely gives the ball away. I love watching him defend near the goal line, no lumping it, no panic, just find a way out of a corner.

However! If he can get a two year contract in Spain then I wish him well.

Great memories Bobby!

Keep him for at least another year, he's scored some decent goals this year and he still has that touch to deliver the ball to the strikers. Losing him after this campaign would be too much too soon. I'm already not looking forward to DB10 leaving, but within the next two years we'll probably see the departure of Super Bob, Freddie and Jens Lehmann. There are a lot of good memories associated with those three and I hate to see time take its toll.

There's no real replacement for him at the moment. And for that reason...Keep Bobby!

A broken leg would've been better.....you're not as likely to lose pace rehabbing from that as opposed to an ACL tear.

Anyway.....agreed that we should try to keep Pires around for another year at least. He could be very useful in limited minutes.

He won't do a one-year-deal, but Wenger has already suggested that he's willing to break from that policy of not signing someone at that age to extended contracts.

He brings class and verve to our side, and if we want Henry to stay, Wenger would be wise to keep is mate Robert. As Pires said last week, if you want Henry to stay, then build a team around him. I think that starts with Pires.

He's coming back into form of late, if you ask me, and seems to be hitting stride just in time to make the national side for the World Cup.

He's a tremendous asset and it would be an awful loss should Wenger be unable to put together a deal.

My prediction: he stays.

My heart says keep 'em, but my head says let him go.

Then you need your head examined!

You're rather consistent on this point, even posting in the Barca boards of how you'll start supporting them, and this Quixote avatar of yours says it all.

If Henry would leave (he won't, but just dealing with the hypothetical) it would be far more disastrous that the departure of PV4, and everyone at the Club - and every true Gooner - knows this. They won't let him go.

He doesn't matter what you want Henry to do. He is going to do what he wants, let's just hope he stay @ Arsenal. You are confusing Henry rumors and Pires. If you think the 2 of them are the same player, you are mistaken.

My bad. See my post above. I'm just upset that you expect Henry to leave for Barca.

But Henry wants Pires to stay. Ergo, Pires stays.

But the Cervantes reference was still quality.

I hope he stays. I think the best case scenario would be to sign him to a one-year deal, which I know is most unlikely, but I think that would be best for the club. Even if the deal is more then a year I hope that Bob is around next season, I agree with what Grimster said, I know he's lost some of his speed but when he comes off the bench, I feel he can and will get us a goal. Also, if it helps Henry in deciding to stay, then a multi-year deal for Bob would be just fine.

I don't expect Henry to leave, just don't want my heart ripped out like with Vieira. I know everyone said suck it up and get over it, but when you really enjoy a player and he just bolts, it's rough. I know you understand. Super Bob has been a great Gunner, just trying to think what is best for Arsenal. If Henry will stay if Pires stays, then sign Super Bob up, immediately.

Keep him. He's still one of the best finishers we have, he and Henry are telekinetic, and we lack experience in midfield as it is. I don't see any problem with handing him two years--some clubs would still want him a year from now even if he continues to slow or doesn't get much playing time with us.

Cervantes wrote Don Quixote. Don Quixote tilted at windmills in Spain, like that in your avatar.

1 year deal. He still has a place and purpose at the club and can help with the young players.
