OM-Sochaux: Rebound as quickly as possible
Against Sochaux, the Olympians have every intention of remaining undefeated at the Vélodrome since the opening match loss to Bordeaux, 2-0. It’s the best

Disappointment and anger sums up the reaction of the Marseille players after the loss to Ligue 1’s bottom club. A week later and slowly the faces have turned towards the future. The goal: to erase the memory of the Ajaccio defeat and start again with a win.: “We simply have to beat Sochaux. We went to their ground and won when they were struggling but this time they’re not down and out. To get rid of any doubts we have to play well and win. We have to get over the defeat to Ajaccio, but I think that’s done because the players were really motivated at training thi week,” announced Jean Fernandez at Thursday’s press conference.
Motivation would seem to have won over the frustration. And motivation will be essential to overcome a side reinvigorated by a 4-0 win over Saint-Etienne. Frédéric Déhu knows it: “The Sochaux players are full of confidence at the moment whereas we are coming off a big loss. Even if the win against Sochaux want erase thememoryof the Ajaccio defeat, it will enable us to get the points back, that we lost in Corsica. We not worried, but were wary, we know our strengths but we’ll have to be alert.”

“Sochaux could cause us trouble”

Just like Ajaccio, Sochaux (16th in Ligue 1) is a team fighting relegation. People say games against the bottom clubs are apparently “easy.” But it doesn’t show on the field, especially when they’re playing OM at the Stade Vélodrome: They’re a team that boasts quality players and they could cause us problems, even if they’re not at full strength. Sochaux have a good defence and play very good counterattacking football. We can’t throw everything forward and we have stay concentrated.”
Even if we don’t know the starting XI, Jean Fernandez, who will be without the services of Bostjan Cesar (suspended), envisages starting Toifilou Maoulida at the point of th Marseille attack: “We’ll start with the same formation as always at home. Toifilou has more to offer playing in the middle.” .
A decision that pleases Mickaël Pagis: “I prefer to have a striker ahead of me who finds spaces. That means I’ve got options. That suits my game, but we know how to adapt in football.”
Finally, to banish the defeat against Ajaccio to a memory, Marseille just have to reproduce the porformance from the first game against Sochaux. The Marseille coach said it himself: “At home, we’ve almost always gotten the right result.” So there’s no reason to change now.
