YAY I thought we looked brilliant when Saha and Richardson were on, and Rio was in the center. Rio for DM!!!

Vidic showing a Wolves player he's Rick James, bitch!

This needs to be repped, if it hasn't yet.

Anyways, good, energetic game from us. Be back with ratings later.

By the way, is Wayne Rooney gonna have to choke a bitch? :D

Cheers, should make up for that neg rep I got from for advocating starting Richardson over Ronaldo (not from United123, btw).

So, who scored 2 goals today and was arguably MotM, Mr. Pearl?

We looked a very good team until Fergie made some subs. Hope Rio plays center mid from now on.

This would be a very good team i think:
Van
Nev Vidic Brown Evra
Park Rooney Rio Ronaldo/Giggs/Richardon
Ruud Saha

Hope Smith or Fletcher dont come back and start.

My ratings:

VDS: Had to make one brilliant stop, but besides that, I don't think he had a whole lot to do. He had no chances on those ones that Wolves went close on anyway. 6.5.

Vidic: I really like the guy so far, just as many of you do. He's always alert, has good positioning sense added to his great physique and doesn't take much chances with the ball. If he keeps this up, we may just be comfortable enough to try out Rio more at DM. 7.5.

Brown: Rock solid. Vidic is looking good, but if Rio is going to stay at CB, then he's gonna have tough time dethroning this man. Another great performance and he's just playing with great class right now. 7.

Silvestre: Take what I said about Vidic, and put in the opposite. That pretty much sums him up. In regards to today's game though, not too bad. 6.5.

G.Nev: He really overlapped well, and looks a whole lot better offensively whenever he plays with Park on that side, IMO. Two things he need to work on, though... jumping and winning balls in the air (he always gets outjumped whenever I see him), and his shooting ability (if not only for his hilarious miss from 5 yards towards our own net :D). Still, he did the main things that are asked for him quite well. 6.5.

Rio: I'm impressed with him at DM thus far, and I attribute that to his good technique and vision, mostly. We all know he is rock solid at defense, but he also showed that unlike O'Shea and some others, he has the playmaking vision and passing skills to go along with it. Definitely worth it to continue the experiment as long as Vidic keeps up his good form. Tidy when he went back over to D too, btw. 7.5.

Rooney: He's just being overplayed right now, as lot of you are worrying. I hope that limp he picked up isn't a serious one, I suspect that it's a result of him overplaying and running too much. What can I say though, this man fills any mid/forward positions well. Was always a constant threat and him and Ruud linked up very well as soon as he went back to his forward position. By no means MOTM performance (though Sky will give it to him :D ), but quite solid. 7.

Park: Welcome back, Park! He looked really anxious to finally play after a long layoff and it showed in his game, as he was running non-stop for the whole 90 minutes. Great defensively, and dispossessed Wolves of posession on at least 5 occassions. He was also more explosive running-wise than any of his previous games, and just tore that right side apart with his quickness whenever he had the ball. Maybe Wolves defense are just slow? I dunno. Either way, amazing performance, near MOTM-worthy. 7.5.

KRich: I'll give this man the MOTM though. There was no one on the Wolves that could handle his speed, and he was always running hard at them with plenty of trickery. I've been meaning to mention this from a while ago, but this is a good opportunity to finally say it... this man is an above-average finisher for the position he plays and should get credit for it. Both goals were well taken, though nothing spectacular... it's something that both Park and Ronaldo can learn from him. Great game, and MOTM goes to you. 8.5.

Saha: Another candidate for MOTM here. He was involved in almost all of our first half attacks, and scored a class goal when he was put through. He was also great in the air and more aggressive than usual. Got taken off bit early in the second half, but I'd say he should have stayed on and let Rooney get the rest. Great stuff overall. 8.

RVN: He fulfilled his duty as the post-player, and although he didn't have much direct attempts on goal (but the one he had was a spectacular one off the upright), he did well in holding up the ball and feeding it to his teammates. Supplied a perfect cross for Richardson for the third goal, and in general he was as effective as he could be without actually scoring. 7.

Smith: Not bad, but was WAY too nonchalant on that counter chance he gave to the Wolves by just standing around. He should be worried for his spot in the midfield if Rio experiment is still in the works, as at the moment he's looking a bit too out of it and getting injured too frequently for his own good. 6.

Fletch: Very tidy stuff, and he actually showed very good technique and speed today, I think (once again, was the Wolves slow or what?). Did his defensive duties and were involved in many of the few chances we had near the end of the game. Good to see that he was given a rest for most of the game. 6.5.

Evra: Showed good commitment and speed, but put in some atrocious crosses into the stands. Haven't exactly been making a splash so far with the United, but he's definitely our left-back of choice at the moment for all the big games. 6.

Glad for the win...

illustrates the lack of a need for Rooney to play this match... but oh well.

Thanks for the comments folks, especially for the 3 posters who provided comments on the same goal when I asked :D

I can't wait to see the replay and highlights.

Excellent to hear of Richardson's good performance as well as that of Vidic and Rio in DM.

I have to admit that while I've not been recently tooting Richardson's horn as much as I did in the past. I have called for him to be included and last season I was very adamant that he should be given a shot at Giggs' position. He's not the finished article, but he is young and he can shoot and he's very fast.

U Rennie is a 1st class wanker

On that we're agreed. I don't suppose you heard the boos that Rennie got from the Wolves fans in the South Bank while he warmed up before the match. He cost Wolves Premiership football. Never seen a ref so blatently biased during that season. Didn't think he favoured either side today - crap decisions for both teams.

I didn't expect Wolves to win this match - a defeat was always on the cards - but I can't believe that Hoddle reverted to a 4-3-3 that hasn't worked against Championship opposition, to play against United. Also his choice to start with Anderton and Seol was somewhat puzzling. Can't argue with the result though. You've got to admire Ince's 30 yarder after Rennie ignored yet another opportunity to play the advantage though

Well I guess Richardsons future is with the club. I like the formation we played today. I only watched the first 30 minutes which wasnt that bad. Our combination play in that time period was alright. Better than I thought it would be.

Happy that we won.

Once Heinze is back and Evra finds his form the lineup can look like this maybe:

---------------VdS-------------
Neville--Vidic---Heinze--Evra
--------------Rio---------------
Park---------------------Ronaldo
-----------Rooney--------------
-----Ruud---------Saha

Hienze at Centerback? I know he has the aggression, and the power, but Id rather play Rio in his best position. He was good today, but seeing as how Heinze is going to come back in the summer, and by then, we will have gotten our central midfielders, I doubt Rio will be needed there anymore.

I heard gary neville kicked the ball into the crowd. How stupid can he get? Apart from our squad not being so deep now, he was just in trouble for inciting the crowd, though I dont agree with it. Why would he do that?

It's Heinze's original and prefered position, and once Evra gets back to form it would be a shame to bench him. This lineup is in case we actually won't go for a quality CM, and since Ferguson has been so stubborn about it for some time now, maybe Rio in DM impressed him so much today he'll have long term ideas for him.
Having said that, I'm all for a DM and a Scholes replacement.
