Media speculation is always wild but seriously.

Butcher is exactly the type of character we dont need .
If we are gonna plump for an ex player it might as well be lineker or pearce.

Scot tries to sabotage England shocker.

Expect to see Alex Salmond come out of the woodwork and suggest Gerry Francis as England manager.

Brown probably wants England to appoint some like Butcher so we can be crap.

Butcher? i think not.

Lineker for some strange reason to me would be a good choice, i don't know why though lol.

Short of the big payoff, is there any coaching job less desirable than England's?

The England job is arguably the most appealing national team job in the world. Highest pay cheque, strong squad and huge fame and exposure should the coach be successful. There is pressure, but then there is always pressure in big jobs.

I just figured between the press (the worst in the world, bar none) and the astronomical expectations, why would a top coach give up a well paying club gig they actually have a chance to keep for longer than a year or two?

Oh, I guess I answered my own question. No one holds a club job very long these days either.

Sad state of affairs if you ask me. :(

The England post is a fabulous job. Great managers thrive on pressure that's why they're great.

But there aren't any great managers in England right now. At least none that want the job.

Neither is English, though. I was under the impression that the FA was under a lot of pressure to avoid another foreign coach?

I was under the impression that the FA was under a lot of pressure to avoid another foreign coach?Well yes they are under a fair bit of pressure from that but the FA have to get the best man for the job and if he isn't english then so be it i suppose. It really doesn't matter where he comes from just aslong as he is good enough.

Allardyce could be great, if he is given the chance to prove it.

If they are not confident of that, then it is no problem to bring in another foreigner as long as he is better and less scandel prone than Sven. Which someone like Hiddink or Scolari arguably is.

Big Sam is the best English option but Big Phil and 'Mad' Gus are the best options overall.

cancel the bets for 'insane' Bruce and 'mentally unstable' Steve .
If it aint allardyce than im an irishman .He already stated he wants the job.
if not him than scolari .

What about Stuart Pierce or Jewell? Or you don't think they have as much experience as Big Sam.

Stuart Pearce is a ridiculous suggestion. He's been a manager for less than 12 months, he has done okay at City but not spectacular. Give him another 5 - 10 years. Anyone who seriously suggests SP needs their head examining.

Same with Paul Jewell, one decent half season in the Prem does not a good manager make. He's also had a load of money to spend making his job of keeping Wigan up a whole lot easier. He's one for the future too.

I dont like jewell.
But I think Pearce would be OK as manager .He would be down the pecking order of possible picks ,but I still wouldnt be against him.
