Joey Barton will snub Manchester City's offer of a new £30,000 a week deal, as he wants more cash. (The Sun)
Boro made an offer, allegedly, and he rejected the move. Now he decides he is worth more than this. He needs a slap after all the antics he's been up to publicly and this is the thanks the club gets?

I'm sure he needs it to bail his family out of jail.

Its from The Sun, don't believe anything that they publish. The Sun is usually full of crap anyway, apart from Page3 :D Barton recently said that he would be happy to stay at Man City for the rest of his career and he wants to stay at the club and re-thank the manager for supporting him during his off-pitch problems.

Sounds like Barton really has rejected the new contract. If he has then its disappointing considering most managers would have sold Barton by now because of his troubles off the pitch and even trouble with other teammates. If he is rejecting the £6m deal then he is being a bit cocky in that he has only really had one impressive which has been this year and already he wants more than £6 million. I still doubt its true though.

City reject Barton request
By Graeme Bailey - Created on 30 Jan 2006
Manchester City have rejected Joey Barton's transfer request.
Skysports.com exclusively revealed that Barton has asked to leave the club after contract talks broke down.
Now the Eastlands outfit have confirmed that a request was made, but it has been rejected.
"The manager has publicly stated his desire to keep the player at Manchester City Football Club," said a City statement.
"A second round of negotiations between the club and the player's representatives took place today and Manchester City wishes to continue those talks."
The 23-year-old is now likely to consider his options, although now his feelings are known, his position at the club may have become untenable.
City are now likely to be bracing themselves for offers - with the transfer deadline just over 24 hours away - and must decide whether to keep him or not.

All that we have done for him! This is shocking. Recently he said that he wanted to re-pay the manager for keeping faith in him during his off-season problems and Pearce offers to double his wages and he rejects it! Its seems as though Barton is getting too big for his boots - one decent season and he wants to leave, thinking hes the best bloody player ever. Oh well, sell him off for over £5 million and get Danny Murphy!

He's an ungrateful little turd. I also read that there was a possibility of United being in for him. Signing for the Rags?!?!?!?!!
Would be nice to let him go and sign Murphy instead, but I thought it was almost a done deal with Spuds?
I have a feeling that the club will do a SWP - new contract and sell 6 months later. Therefore, the club will get the best asking price, while the player gets his wish to leave.

Barton's manager has just been on TalkSport and he has said that Barton will not be signing a new contract, regardless of whether they offer him the wages he wants. Man Utd, Middlesbrough, Liverpool and Arsenal have been linked with him.

Barton hopeful over City deal
By Alex Livie - Created on 6 Feb 2006
Joey Barton is hopeful of agreeing a new contract with Manchester City this
week and has admitted he was 'impetuous' in handing in a transfer request last month.
Midfield star Barton stunned the Eastlands faithful last month when handing in a transfer request, which was rejected, after talks over a new deal broke down.
Barton claims he was left angered by City's opening gambit, saying he did not feel valued by the club, and would not switch his stance until a revised offer was put to him.
However, having had time to ponder his actions, Barton is looking to resolve the situation by thrashing out a new deal.
"All I know is talks are due to start again very shortly and I hope the matter can be resolved this week and I can get back to doing what I do best, which is performing week in and week out for my football club," Barton told Sky Sports News.
Barton incurred the wrath of the City faithful in the home match with Newcastle last week and he admits that handing in a transfer request was the wrong course of action.
"Emotions were running high at the time and there was a lot of people who were angry and disappointed about things that went on," he added.
"I handed in a transfer request which, in hindsight, was impetuous and the club rejected it.
"As far as I am concerned it is not my aim to leave the club in the near future and all I can say is people are talking, my advisors are meeting with the club again, and this situation can hopefully be resolved before the next game.
"Me handing in a transfer request may have raised a lot of doubt in people's minds [about my commitment]," he admitted. "But people have got to understand I was emotional and angry at the time and I acted a little bit rashly and in hindsight I should not have done what I did.
"But it is done now and it is down to me to sort this out.
"Hopefully with my actions on and off the field, I can prove to people who have doubted me and my desire to stay at the club."

I think hes a really good player and this has been his best season so far. He scores a lot of goals, gets assists, hes good attacking and defending, he can cross the ball well and he seems to influence games a lot as well. Overall, I think hes a really good player, but him handing in the transfer request has seemed to make people notice him instead of his impressive performances on the pitch. He has had his troubles in the past but hopefully they are behind him and this season he has been a great player for us. If he leaves then people will be disappointed and may feel that he has betrayed the club, because he does owe it to Pearce for keeping faith in him. If he stays, then people will forget about it.
