I totally agree with the article - we can still get into Europe. The season is only halfway over. If we keep Osman in the team ( i always thought he was better than davies anyway) we'll keep kicking.

Weve got 15 games left so there isnt that many, we could but we would need alot of teams to be awful in the next few months.
Osman is a confidence player, if we play well hes a belter but if we have a poor game he goes missing, but i would ave him before Davies at the minute.

You can't completely rule it out. With everyone outside the top three or four looking decidedly average all season, whichever club gets a roll of good results going could easily push their way into Europe.
That said, though, getting to Europe isn't just over a bridge we haven't crossed yet, it's over that bridge, through the woods and out behind Grandma's house. Until things change drastically (new board or Billy finally makes good on money promises), the first goal is, was and always will be 40 points. Once that's secured, then the chase for mid-table obscurity and Europe can begin.

It's not impossible, but given our injury situation and how seriously Mourinho is taking the FA Cup, I wouldn't bet on it. I'm just hoping for a good showing and no one getting hurt.

I'm not necessarily predicting it, but I wouldn't be absolutely shocked.

Yep, me too. I felt real good Saturday morning against Arsenal...and I feel the same way about Chelsea. Not a prediction, but I think Chelsea might be in for a serious fight!

I'm not all that optimistic about Chelsea (but how awesome would that be?!?), but I think Greg makes a point about Europe. I know we need more bodies, but we did the same thing last year with fewer people, so why not again?

Because we were fantastic in the first half of the seaon but the second half was closer to relegation form when the injuries started to take their toll.

Dammit, Mcnabb, this is one of the few posts where I'm optimistic! Everyone's always saying I'm too negative, so I try being positive. Then you come in making all kinds of sense and just ruin it! :D
I agree with what you said, but I'm still hopeful that our "team spirit" will catapult us into good results.

You never know tho, maybe well have an opposite season to last in the fact that this season we started poorly but will finish like champs. Hope thast opptomistic for you. :D

Well, bluedaddy may or may not be right about us qualifying for Europe, but it looks like Davey has a backup plan. He's entered us in the Intertoto Cup.
Good move, I think. I know we have squad problems, but I think we really need to be in Europe if we're going to solve that. We need the cash that comes from it to add the kind of players we need to be competitive in the league. I doubt we'll be ready but at least it's a goal - it's something concrete to shoot for, it's completely doable and it could give our players some confidence outside the league if it goes well.
What do you guys think?

sounds good...could someone explain it to me though? like are we already going to compete in it? or do we have to finish high in the league?

IIRC, the top three clubs from the Intertoto Cup get a ticket into the UEFA Cup. League position doesn't play a factor, but I could be wrong about that.

lol the inter-two-bob, well looks like im gonna have to give up a holiday this year and end up in Latvia or some god forsaken eastern european hell hole.
It does ina way work off league position, i thinks its open to alot of teams for if say 4 teams take up the offer then whoever finishes higher out of those 4 teams gets entered into it.
