...better late than never I suppose.

Just announced on the live game.

Why not just do it now?

A bit late indeed but still good news. :)

Why not just do it now?

Good question.

Player power I suppose.

The new manager might not have his head up his arse and continue to play certain players.

Should have tossed him after the NI tomfoolery.

Agreed completely - and for a moment there I thought it possible.

I'd agree on your player power point - with the disguise of "don't upset the squad with changes right before the WC, it'll ******** us up mentally" to cover the actual reasoning.

It'll be interesting to see who follows.

too bad the special one cannot be brought in to take over - sven is rubbish!

I could buy that but who would want to play for the guy? He bashes his players, doesn't provide leadership in any way, shape or form.

Not sure if it's a good idea to announce it now but good news none the less. :)

I won't be at all surprised if he steps down before the world cup to be honest.

I can't see him doing that, he'll want to manage the team in the world cup then just leave.

Scolari would be a great choice :)

He bashes his players...

Hell, I'd like to hit Becks upside the head now and again. Who wouldn't? ;)

perhaps.

he's a bit of a lame duck now though eh?

However, this could just be a face saving move for him.

They're announcing that he will leave after the cup - but, really he's been sacked now, and they're just giving him a few weeks to leave and make it look like he walked away....[/conspiracy therory]

You'll get no argument from me ;)

Stupid decision by the FA. Why in the world would you tell the players that their coach is a lame duck? For the players who're younger the incentive is to say "******** you" - you're gone after the tournament. Of course he should go, but this drawn out affair doesn't actually help anyone.

Fecking wanker, should be sacked now.

Well I'd keep SGE for the WC as there really isn't a replacement out there. stability might be important just before a WC. The team more or less picks itself, there really isn't many/any players out there who should be in the team and who are not.

Also I really don’t understand why an English newspaper would undermine the <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1 ="">England</st1></st1:country-region> camp before a WC. Not very patriotic imo.

Bobby Robson has his “advisor” role with <st1 ="">Eire</st1> now and he is probably too old anyways, but he might work as an interim manager for the WC and maybe even for the next couple of years working alongside McClaren et al.

I agree with Nice. This move by the FA is not very smart. Sven should have been fired a while back, just as Beckham should have been stripped of the captain title a whileback.
