because if you wan't to ever amount to something you have to be able to see things from different POVs. Although many of them were tedious, I enjoyed some of the classes that were mandatory in University, after all, it is a liberal arts education that most of us are seeking. Otherwise there's always ITT Tech.

DirecTV is pissing me off. I returned 2 defective DVR units, both were sent to try and replace the first one that stopped working after a software upgrade crashed the HD in it. Sure enough, those units kept crashing after the upgrade too. Finally, they sent me a different model, which also already had the upgrade installed and it works fine. However, 2 months after I returned these 2 units, they charged my account 600 bucks for unreturned units! They won't credit my account unless I have the Fed Ex tracking number. I don't have that, it's been over 2 months! It's gotten to the point where I'm looking at other sat companies and/or digital cable. I mean, I pay them 150 bucks a month for service, and they're going to stiff me for 600 bucks?!?!?
I don't think so.
EDIT: They say that their return policy is that they need the tracking number to verify the packages were delivered. I told them my policy is not to let anybody screw me out of $600.

Have you spoken to a manager yet? I'd suggest telling them that you are going to switch providers if they don't find their own tracking number or the units or some common sense and just forget the whole thing. I mean logically, what the fcuk are you going to do with 2 dvr units that don't work? Also, they might have a point with 1 non-returned unit, but not for 2. Why the hell did they send another unit if you haven't returned the broken one? that's just retarded. However, that's just like most big companies... screw the little guy.

Like in your Black Anthro class, ask the prof if you can write a paper on 70s blaxploitation films (Dolemite :D ), or whatever might interest you and still be relevant to the class, instead of whatever they require in the way of papers or exams. I think profs go for stuff like that more often than you might think. At least that way you're still strengthening yourself in your field, if nothing else.

I had a problem like that once... measurement was pronounced merriment. Oh, and it didn't help that I didn't figure that out until the last month on class...

Apparently, they want you to teach yourself in college science/math class. I am lucky to have a pretty good physics teacher but my Cal II teacher is trash. She is a nice person and Thai or something, but she can't speak any English and doesn't know how to communicate or teach very well. Good thing I have my book, I will be reading alot this semester I think...

It's not about that, I don't need any of those classes because I'm already familar with the context and the literature and everything it's about. It's more a waste of time than anything else. I don't need those classes and they don't benefit me whatsoever.

Yea I've been using that strategy, to cover women's studies I'm taking a "women in the 40's on film " class, four hours worth of stuff I already know, and it's still tedious but at least its film.
And as for the black anthro class, I can't do that, my professor is very strict about sticking to what she gives us only.

well, if you know everything why are you in college?
hell, alot of people I know would be glad to be in a class that means nothing towards their major that was easy to do because they knew everything about it.

I want to focus on my major, because that's where I don't knoweverything and I want to be as good as I can. It's just those other courses, the requirements where I know everything already and it deems them that much more useless. Why would I want to take a class I know everything about already when it just wastes my time and prevents me from focusing on the one subject I actually do want to concentrate on!? It's a stupid system, that's all.

The entire idea behind general education requirements is not only to broaden you as a person, but also to force you to be exposed to things you would not take otherwise. Very few people actually know what they want to focus on going into college, even though most think they do. The American system allows for experimentation and the ability to find what you want to focus on, instead of ending up with degree in a field that you may end up hating.

Ok, but I'm not an idiot, I don't need to broaded my mind by taking Black American Anthro and women's studies, I get nothing out of it that I wouldn't learn on my own already.
Sure the American system allows regular close minded idiots with the opportunity to explore different subjects but that doesn't apply to me.
Like I said, no requirement I've taken so far has taught me anything or broadened my mind beyond what I already know about the subject. Besides my major classes I would have taken requirements that I personally enjoy, like certain science classes, but other than that I'm forced to take ethnicity classes and certain gender classes. It's ********ing bullsh!t!

You have a strange school my friend.
As an engineering major, I take Cal, Chem, Physics, and Surveying this semester. Next semester, more Cal more physics, statics, engineering mechanics, etc. I will have to take a total of 7 non-engineering related classes. Those being two humanities (which I tested out of in HS) two social sciences (business which is good) two English (out of one, always good to know how to write, though I made a 98 in the class last sem it was stuff I learned in HS) and a fine art. The rest is related to my field for the next 4.5 years...

I'm sure you are upset about certain things in your life SM, and I know this is the Anger thread, but you're choice of words is pushing the wrong buttons with me. My school forcing me to take a variety of courses has been beneficial to my overall view on life and I feel has made me a better person. I definitely do not consider myself a "close minded idiot" because I've had my views broadened by a variety of courses in different subject matters.

well ok, I apologize if it pushed your buttons, me and your are obviously different then. Those courses benefit you because you haven't been exposed to those ideas in your life. That's not the case with me and that's what upsets me, it's a waste of my time and everyone in my life is on my case about it. I could try going to a specialized school, but they are too expensive and my parents have twice turned down that idea.
