I suppose that's a decent excuse.
I don't mean to alienate anybody, but driving an SUV/truck unnecessarily is one thing that truly angers me. There are just so many ways in which driving one of those cars is essentially saying: "hey, I have the right to drive a vehicle that damages the environment and the economy!" And yep, you sure do. But it doesn't make it responsible or ethical.
I don't care if you buy global warming. The statistics regarding respirtory damage due to pollution are more difficult to ignore. And, of course, there's a very basic economic relationship between fuel consumption and gas prices.
My car gets about 40 mpg. My wife's gets around 35mpg. To be honest, we both wanted more performance-oriented vehicles - we didn't buy them because we consider it irresponsible.
I honestly think most people who drive SUVs/trucks just aren't thinking of the consequences of collective action/inaction. But there are many who are (a) basically apathetic or (b) happy to be freeriders.
And ******** them.

When I first bought my little Honda, it got 38 miles to the gallon. Now it gets about 16. :( Man, those were the days, back when my car was new, and her 12 gallon tank could be filled on under $10 and take me over 400 miles. *sigh*
I feel that people in Hummers are just mocking me: "Yes, I flaunt the fact that I can just burn my money; how else would I light my cigar? No I don't give a damn about the environment." Meanwhile, if one of their negligent, speeding asses hits my car, I'll likely be dead from the impact. Yay.

I don't currently drive one but the one thing you're not thinking of is in Northern states we gwt something called snow that falls on the ground.. Now when this phenomenon occurs the eeasiest and sefest way to get around is a vehicle with 4wd/awd. SUV's tend to have this trait hence the high percentage of SUV drivers..
As someone who in the past has owned vehicles with 4wd/awd and now owns a vehicle with rear wd I'll tell you that my next car will have awd because every time we get even a sprinkling of snow I fear for my life.... The only thing that makes me feel safe is the German Engineering...:D

Please rep me, as I'm Scottish and currently on 66 points. That number boils my blood due to the English connection (1966 *spit*) and clear cheating associated with it. Put me out of my misery.

Yeah, though it does irritate me when people don't realize how many cars there are out there with AWD that probably handle better in the snow than an AWD SUV. Not talking about you obviously, just annoys me when people use that as their only excuse. When in truth they just use it to justify buying something huge to make them feel "cool". Never had a problem in the snow or ice in my FWD car (though I did get the traction control).
So you have a RWD German car... well Break My Wallet! :D
