The smoking ban is ********ing brilliant. Chicago just started it (bars get two years to comply, everyone else in the city is immediate). Came back from a concert last night and didn't feel like I had to shower for 45 minutes from smelling like a ********ing ashtray. Thank you, American Lung Association.
My love of smokey jazz bars disagree.

3 years ago I would've definitely disagreed with you.. As a smoker when NYC enforced that law I hated standing outside in the cold to smoke a butt...
Today I couldn't agree with you more... As an ex-smoker I think the smell of smoke is sickening and being in an enclosed area with smoke makes me nauseaus(sp?)

FYP ;) :D
HEY!
By no means am I a conservative and I'm saying the goverment should ecide for us, but the drinking age limit is no big deal, except for chronic drinkers, which is their problem. You can still get into bars and watch football games, who the ******** cares if you can drink or not!?! I mean honestly. There are millions of other problems in life, why the ******** deal with that one? WHy are people so hung up on it, I can't understand.
And I'm totally for the smoking ban, Achtung commented on it before, I could just go anywhere in the city and second-hand smoke two packs a night.

Thank you, American Lung Association. When I used to smoke, I never noticed it, but its ********ing rank. When I go spend the night at my sister's house (where they usually smoke indoors), I can leave a packed bag completely closed and locked in the back bedroom where I sleep, and EVERYTHING REEKS the next day when I open the bag in a different environment. I have to wash everything. I can open my luggage right now and still smell the smokiness from my last trip home.
I'm all for live and let live, but sorry smokers, it's gross. Inject your nicotine or something, just keep it away from me. And, get honest, you know if you weren't totally addicted you wouldn't be doing it anyway.

I don't live in a big city, so I can't comment about smoking problems in one, but I do come from a family of many smokers. I have set up rules in my home and all of the home's of relatives I visit that they have to take their smoking outside, or to rooms that I don't frequent. I can't stand that smell. I wish they would just make the smoking ban nationwide in all public spaces.

Oh I got distracted, I wasn't even angry about smoker's until reading the thread.
I'm angry cause I have so much WORK to do, and I'm tired and my back hurts, my eyes hurt, my head hurts, the last thing I want to do is sit back down in front of my laptop and type until 2 in the damn morning over some junk that only 3 people in the wide world will ever read. UGHHHH. :( [/bitching, moaning]
Sorry, I just had to get that out.

Well... hopefully you're not doing work that's so far over your head that you're not even sure where to start. Here I am working on a subsystem I've never looked into, virtually flying blind while making DHS-mandated changes that are supposedly in the interest of national security.
Don't you feel safe with someone like me making your cell phones work?

Philly is the worst I've ever been to for lots of smoking in bars. My lungs were hurting every time I left a bar when I was there. NYC was great though...they need to make that a law everywhere.

I love, love, love the NYC smoking ban. For one thing, visits to Nevada Smiths are so much better. If they could invent a smokeless cigarette then I wouldn't care about a ban. However, smoke is part of what makes smoking cool and smoking would lose most of its cache and almost all of its users.

Speaking of cell phone and national security, I've taken to wondering these days how many of my international calls have been tapped. I hope some of them, so some poor sap has to listen to me and the hubby: "I love you more" "No I love YOU more." "Listen to the song I wrote you . . . " "Oh let me give you a half hour summary of how class/work was today . . . " "You hang up first." "No you", etc. Heheh, secure that, suckers.

Why would I want to have 3 pints of Guinness whilst watching Manchester United defeat Liverpool.. I don't know.
On another note, I am not a smoker, but I enjoy a cigar (not black and mild mind you) every once in a while. I read that there was a banning on smoking in public establishments in UK/Ireland, is this true?

I know its been banned in Ireland... not sure on the UK. I guess you don't notice when you're watching matches in stadiums instead of the pubs. :D

Oh well, more for the other things (of which I shall enjoy much to the shagrin of some. ).
I agree though that smoking bans are a good thing. I generally hate cigarette smoke (especially people who say they don't but you can tell including bitches.) but alot of people smoke down here so you get used to it.

I think that 50Euro and FIFARay might do their best to prevent me from enjoying that in Chicago though, lest there be more, um, "unpleasantness"...

It's going to be banned in all pubs and club eventually, at the moment its just ones that serve food, although around here not that many people enforce it.

The smoking ban is ********ing brilliant.Double
In a few short minutes, I'm on my way out to smoke my brains out while intoxicated beyond the beyonds, gargling hooker spit and eating raw babies while I'm at it. First, I've got to get this 350mls of vodka into me, after the obligatory litre of milk (I'm a shamelessly incredible lightweight without my milk).
