I hope that money grabbing punk breaks down again.
Of course, it takes Liverpool getting jobbed for Hansen to take a stand and call for divers to be taken to task...
Two weeks ago it was excessive celebrating by Gary Neville needing to be stamped out....
What a biased and blinkered wanker...

It was horrible. The FA really need to do something. Reina maybe gets sent off for that challenege anyway but Robben should be suspended for a match. How many did Rooney miss, 3?

David Villa's goal against Depor was absolutely superb... one of the best lobs I've ever seen... the keeper wasn't that far off his line and Villa wasn't in the center of the pitch, he also curled the ball into the far corner... pretty impressive.
Along with some of his other exploits this season, his control, passing and vision as well as goal scoring ability he's looking to be a really fantastic player. I'd pick him ahead of Raul for Spain at this rate.

The potential of a Torres - Villa partnership is there, and its a scary concept, only if the idiot headcoach can sort it out and drop Morientes and Raul.

I was disappointed when we missed out on him. At least Saha is doing okay though.

That whole thing was a nightmare for both teams, starting with Gudjonsen's handball at the very beginning of the play as he swept it toward the corner.
On the broadcast itself, you didn't really see Robben get pushed and flop. I thought the red card was originally for the tackle by Reina (more on that in a second), and thought the ref had completely lost it when he pointed back toward the center of the field. I thought was indicating that he was carding Reina because of the open goal, which would have been an incredibly wrong application of DOGSO rules, but then later realized he was pointing to where the Robben incident had occurred.
Now, lest anyone think I've lost the plot by saying I think Reina could have been red carded for the tackle on Gudjonsen, let me explain just a little. I don't think it was a red card tackle, yet it was a more plausible reason in my mind than the DOGSO red.
You may (and on the Liverpool board there was a bit of discussion of this) hear that Reina got the ball and therefore it couldn't have been a card. Well, that's one of the great myths of the game. Just because "you got the ball" doesn't mean that, as a defender, you haven't committed a foul. Obviously if you go through the man and incidentially or secondarily get some ball, it's still a foul.
Second, even if you get ball first, you can be called for a foul and even carded. I nearly learned this the hard way during my last refereeing assessment, part of an upgrade to State level ref. Similar play where a defender made a hard, somewhat out of control tackle near the corner as his team was being beaten solidly. He got nothing but ball and then his second leg swept through and cleared the player out. I was right on it and immediately gave a talking to the player (I often talk more than card) but didn't give a card or even a foul, since it ended up as a corner anyway. After the game I was told that I definitely needed to call a foul in that situation and probably needed to give a yellow; the fact that the assessor saw that I recognized the danger, kept it from getting worse (and thankfully it didn't) and for all practical purposes the restart ended up being the same kept me out of trouble and I passed anyway. But applying that knowledge to Reina's tackle, it was pretty damn bad and warranted misconduct anyway, at least a yellow given that he came in like a bat out of hell, from behind, with two feet that darn near resembled a scissors tackle. To say it "endangered the safety of an opponent" is not beyond the realm of the straight face test, ball or not. Again, I'll reiterate that I wouldn't have given a straight red for it, opting for yellow, but maybe all that factored in to the lack of leniency in the face of Robben's flop.

Just saw this, and of course the Gudjohnsen handball, plus the theatrics of Robben, plus half the Chelsea team surrounding Reina after the play means they won't be penalized in the least bit.
Too bad money can't buy class.

Portsmouth striker Lomana LuaLua is in mourning over the death of his 18-month-old son which had been concealed from him by his country's soccer federation

I can't even begin to imagine what I'd do if such info' was concealed from me. That's the most despicable act I've heard about in football for a long time.

I would personally tell my federation not to inform me of any possible distractions during a tournament, unless it was 'critical'. In saying that, for them to do it without his permission is very, very poor.

I'm assuming the death of a child would qualify as "critical" in your book though, right?

It might seen very harsh, but what can you do about it? I would much rather remain oblivious and continue in the tournament. If not, not only would I be left with the grief of losing a child, I would also be left with the feeling of what might have been. It's a lose, lose situation and one that I don't expect anyone else to understand.

But how about a severe illness or injury ? I mean as long as the child survives, then Lualua would see him afterwards, when he returned from the tourno. Surely that would ok ? ;)
