it seems he had problems with the coaching staff at monaco - and now with his national team. i hope he doesn't implode entirely before he pulls on an arsenal shirt...

Oh dear. Robin van Persie was supposed to be tricky character too, sometimes gifted people need to be around people who's talent they respect to get the best out of them. It worked for van Persie, hopefully the same will apply to Adebayor.

I just read that he had a bust up with his manger. I think the whole Togo team has been complaining so I'm sure there is an uneasy feeling around the team which has (hopefully) probably led to his outburst.
Plus some energy is what we need after our insipid display at Everton today. We needed RVP to come in and change the game.

I'm uneasy at the prospect of a new Kanu! Personally, as good a player as he still is, I think he was rarely an effective Gooner! If this kid is Kanu, with strength to hold the ball, excellent heading and doesn't hold the game up to show off his silky skills, allowing defences regroup, then he'll be a useful 5mill quid addition to the squad. If he doesn't do those things and proves to be trouble as well, then it'll be an awfully big fee!

Hopefully he will prove himself, and if a player anywhere is going to be brought back down to earth it will be at arsenal.

Adebayor was the only reason that they even made it to the World Cup. He was the top goal scorer in Africa during WCQ. To then get dropped for a stupid reason (he had much longer layoffs during WCQ and still played) and have the game end in a loss to a side they were favorites to beat is enough to get many players angry. Lets see how Wenger deals with him before we start calling him a problem child.

don't get me wrong, i don't doubt his talent - if wenger rates him, then i do. and arsene is usually shrewd enough to evaluate a player's mental state as well.
i definitely don't want to slate him yet (he hasn't even stepped foot on the pitch); i'm fully prepared to give him a chance. but you've got to admit, these confrontations don't exactly bode well. don't want another anelka, thankyouverymuch.
i could be totally wrong - i hope that i am - and the togo coach is a massive wanker. maybe it's true the whole team's fallen out with him. regardless, i look forward to seeing him bang in some goals.
let's hope he sets the league alight, and provides a different attacking dimension. we sorely need one.

I wouldn't put much stock in African players' relationships with their national set-ups as an indicator of what they'll be like with the club. Many of the FA's are amazingly corrupt and fcuk the players regularly, and it's been that way for a long, long time.
As for the problems in Monaco, he says (http://home.skysports.com/list.asp?hlid=352727&plid=16987&clid=3&cpid=8) he was cool with Deschamps but he wasn't part of Guidolin's plans and that Vieri's arrival was his signal to move on. I'm sure he could've handled it better, but that's the type of thing he can learn with us.

togo coach calls him a "cry baby" but says he will stay with the team for the tournament. coach also says he couldn't pull this kind of stuff with wenger.

I am perturbed by his run-ins with coaches. Two incidents in as many months!
What happens when Wenger decides to go with van Persie and Henry, and have Adebayor on the bench?

"After the game, Keshi said he had initially dropped Adebayor in the morning, then changed his mind. However, Adebayor had refused to play."
"He is a baby compared to me, I have a son who is older than he is and I do not need to have a competition with any player."
Sounds like Adebayor isn't the only person with some growing up to do. We'll see how he gets along in a professional atmosphere. Don't forget that Wenger even got Anelka to be productive.

I think the atmosphere created by Wenger squashes attitude problems, just look at RvP. Everyone said he would be a flop and destroy the harmony at Highbury. Robin has been amazing for us and has fit right in.

Lets all cut our wrists..... no wait half of us can cut our wrists now the other half when we beat Wigan by only 2 goals.
I think they try to sell newspapers in Africa also.

Hell, reporters are dressing up as rich Arabs to get dirt on Sven. Who knows what other tricks are in the planning stages to sell a paper?

Togo coach: ''He's not going to be like this with Arsene Wenger, that's for sure. He does it with me because I'm a black coach, not a white one. Maybe if I was white he would have a little respect for me.''

Ah, playing the race card. As i suspected, the Togo coach is an idiot.

Agreed. If he manages to lose Adebayor for the WC (which I doubt...the manager might be stupid but not suicidal) then Togo are going to look really bad in Germany. The team's attack is completely centered on Adebayor. They simply have no other goal scorers. Adebayor scored 50% of the WCQ goals with 11 goals the highest in Africa WCQ. The next closest goal scorer on the team had only 3 goals. It was already going to be tough for them to do decently but I'd bet on 3 losses with no Adebayor in the team. They are in one of the "easier" groups (off form France, low scoring Swiss, and South Korea outside of Korea) and could advance with even a decent number of goals. They have a decent defense and play a tight game so they'll not be this WC's S.Arabia but they'll look useless going forward. Blowing the game against DR Congo (probably the worst team in Togo's group) was pretty bad and I'd be surprised if Keshi doesn't try to get Adebayor back.

He's hardly a quality manager if he doesnt retain adebayor, who is easily his star player. I cant really see the togo football association or whatever they are called being happy with this, as i think they would rather have their star and only world class player than this manager.
If they have to sack Keishi to keep adebayor happy, i think they will.

So is Abedayor coming back, or is he back already? Also do you guys reallly think he will get a place above RVP?

He'll be given time to adjust. He's not coming back until Togo are out of the cup. I believe RVP will lead the line w/ Henry when he's back fit. Adebayor will have to compete for the place ahead of him.
