It goes without saying that Owen and Rooney are England's #1 and #2 strikers. A few months ago, it would've been almost without question that Defoe was #3. However, with the resurgence of Vassell, last year's emergence of Peter Crouch, and the emergence this season of the likes of Bent, Harewood, Roberts (all who have scored as many or more than Defoe in the league), is he still England's #3 striker? I know form is temporary and class is permanent, but unless Defoe starts scoring fast, will he deserve to be the first off the bench for England?

Makes no difference, Sven isn't exactly expert at bringing in fringe players. They get the odd 5 minute sub appearance chasing long balls and then get dropped.

Even when Owen was injured, Sven switched to having a lone striker rather than play Defoe or Bent. What a load of rubbish.

Very true. That's why I've always felt a little sorry for (rich git)Defoe.
