Just wondering. Maybe it would be a stretch to try and organise a BS United NSR forum online tournament (that was mouthful :) ), but you never know. Failing that we could perhaps swap hints and tips inside this thread.
I've been playing for about 3 1/2 years now, although I don't think I've played a single hand in the past 6 months or so but want to get back into it. I usually play hold 'em and have dabbled in ring games, tourneys and SNGs in all forms (limit, pot-limit and no-limit) and have had most success in ring games although tournaments were treating me nicely before I stoppped playing for a while. It's all been a mix of low-limit and micro-limit stuff so nothing major.
It would be good to hear from anyone else who plays and maybe we could offer each other advice if we've encountered tricky situations or we could post up a few hands for discussion etc.

I play 3 or 4 times a week with the guys from work. I love playing poker...I can't wait to make it to Vegas and try it out there.

I play it at least once a week, usually two, sometimes three or more. I only play no-limit Texas hold-em, almost always tournaments (most of the time just games amongst friends), have been playing for about 2.5-3 years, although I have played it occasionally for the last 4-4.5 years. I don't enter a whole lot of hands, but when I am in I am throwing a LOT of chips into the pot. Sometimes it's when I've got the nuts, other times it's on a complete bluff, which has earned me the nickname 'Farquath' (the King from Shrek) because of the way he sits on his throne (I prefer sitting at the head of a table) and throws chips around mercilessly. :D
I went on an insane streak in the summer and won 18 tournaments straight, coming out with a sizeable profit in a few cash games and never losing a penny in the meantime. I came out at the end of the usmmer with €1,200 and I must have spent €2,500 during it; basically, poker was my summer job. although I did pay for that from September-November when I just could not win a hand, e.g. getting pocket kings and raising pre-flop to only get one or two callers, then catching a king on the flop, going all-in and getting a caller who would then catch a runner-runner for a straight or flush (why these people would call me, I will never know). I've been back in good form for the last 6 weeks or so, though. Playing tonight, and hoping/needing to win (need to get €200 before Wednesday when I will have my PowerBook back... and of course, iwll have to pay for it.

If someone can figure how to have an online forum tournament, I'm definitely in...

I've been known to try my hand at no-limit Hold Em. I'd definitely be interested in a forum tournament.

I couldn't take part for a while, since I have to get Virtual PC to play online poker since it doesn't work on a Mac (something to do with it being Java-scripted).

I used to play online poker, but the randomness of the game put me off poker and I continued with chess. I used to use party poker, which is free, and I think you guys might be able to set something up on there.

It looks a little cheesy to me, but I know nothing about poker so maybe some of y'all would be into it.

I've played with friends about five times a year for the last 15 years, although not so much in the last few years. I have not played on-line but am willing to give it a try.

It's good to see I'm not alone in my vice. Any possible forum tournament would be easy to organise provided we were all signed up to the same site and available at the same time (this is probably the major stumbling block). Most of the major sites will handle the rest of it for you, you just shoot them an email, tell them when, what kind of tournament, what structure and the entry fee you want and they'll put it in the lobby for you and give you a password so that only those who know it can enter.

I'm always torn when it comes to things like this. I wouldn't want to watch or take part myself as I'm bit of a poker purist and honestly all these celebrity poker tournaments (there's loads of 'em) usually have people taking part who don't have a clue what they're doing. On the other hand, it encourages people into the game that saw the celebs doing it and they might feel that it's the new coolest thing to do. Newcomers into the game are always welcome, especially if they don't know what they're doing.
Over here we've had "celebrity come dancing" which is a ballroom dancing contest for celebs and I'm pretty sure you guys in the states have had your own version of the show only with a different name. We've now got celebrity ice skating. I'm sure that fans of both these pastimes are in a similar position to me, very critical of the ability of the people taking part but perhaps pleased that more people might be interested to take part in future as a result of watching the show.

On the other hand, it encourages people into the game that saw the celebs doing it and they might feel that it's the new coolest thing to do. Newcomers into the game are always welcome, especially if they don't know what they're doing. Especially when it's some annoying celebrity who is constantly talking and trying to be funny, but failing... badly (and no offense to the Americans here, but they do indeed tend to come from the USA). Ever seen The James Woods Gang vs. The Unabombers on the Poker Channel (if you have digital)? It isn't only embarrassing and featuring one of the most annoying people I have ever seen (some loud late-30s blonde woman), but it just rapes the whole concept of what poker (particularly no limit hold-em) is all about... although James Woods (and to a lesser extent Danny Masterson) as well as a few other celebs are actually decent players.
So to those of you who watch poker on TV, who is your favourite/most hated player(s)? My favourite would be Danny Ngreanu because he is sheer entertainment (although I apparently play very similarly to Phil Ivey)... Mike Madisow is quality, too because he is such an a-hole but really entertaining, kind of like the Robbie Savage (a player I am very fond ofwho I have always liked as a footballer... :o). Phil Hellmuth is just annoying though, and I love nothing more than seeing him lose; he is so arrogant that I can't even stand seeing him play.
Oh, and Andy Black (who reached the final table of the WSOP this year, making his return after having for years lived in some isolated monastery he joined to get out of his drug addictions after losing at the final table 7 or so years back) lives pretty damn close to me, I hear.

My fav player is the guy that took 2nd in WSOP last year. Donelman? Something like that. He looks almost exactly opposite of what you expect a poker player to look.

I have an affinity for different players for different reasons but have a couple of favourites, probably because I see a little of myself in them:
I'm a fan of Dan Harrington because he plays in a style similar to mine, althought much better. I like the way he has a tight table image which allows him to steal more pots later in tournaments as people think he must have a hand if he's showing interest. Boring fact #1: His cousin is Padraig Harrington the golfer who I'm sure Billy must have heard of.
John Juanda is another player who I'm similar to although at times I think that he plays too weak/tight (who am I to criticise?) which is something that I occasionally struggle with. If i'm watching him on tv I'm sometimes just shouting "for fooks sake raise or bet out first to act!!" at him but he usually check/folds . He's still been pretty successful though and gets the job done somehow.

Boring fact #2: Also, both are cousins of Detriot Lions quarterback Joey Harrington.:)
As far as poker goes, I play usually once a month with a group of friends, would like to play more frequently though...

Boring correction: First cousins (at least Joey-Padraig, anyway). ;)
