Greg Raymer... top player, but tends to get unbelievable luck on the turn and/or river. Another French guy called Jacques (there's a suprise) Orama (sp? It's wrong, I know) wears even weirder shades that go over, rather than around, his head.

Not because you can't read those guys, but just because it's so weird. I would imagine you couldn't get away with that sort of thing playing poker with a group of your buddies, right?

There's nothing wrong with doing it... I've worn (normal) shades once or two for a laugh, but it really is harder for them to read you when wearing shades. Problem is, I have taught myself to react the complete opposite in my physical reactions most of the time and then since I play the hands very different to my facial expressions a good bit (plus aggressive play), it actually backfired on me.

I personally don't get phased plaing against somebody in shades though, since my strength isn't talking or reading facial expressions; I am much better with reading body language and the bets... plus I have a good instinct for when I am beaten or winning (but unfortunately still stab away at it even if I KNOW I am losing). A lot of people who read facial expression can find it impossible to play against shades, though.

I don't particularly like playing against shades since it removes the usefulness of the face, which can often be very revealing...I'm fairly good at reading body language and tone of voice (I love playing against talkers - I'm not one) though so it's not a critical disadvantage. Still easier without shades though. I can't say I've ever tried it myself, although if I ever start playing as seriously as I keep meaning to (I'm still in the 'playing occasionally with mates/people who want to play', as opposed to regular games stage) who knows. My best friend lives off his poker winnings, much like Billy during the summer, and I can beat him and other good players I know so I'm gonna try to source out some games with people who I don't know as well and see how I measure up.

I registered at Paddy Power Poker today. In 6 hours of play I am up $100, but I should be up about 400. I have had some horrible bad beats: top pair with an ace kicker off the flop being called byu 2 under-cards... the guy hit trips. I also went all in with pocket aces, got called by a guy with pocket jacks, and he hit trip 8s. I had a straight off the flop, a guy went all in on a stone-cold bluff and I called, he hit a flush. These are just off the top of my head, too.

Hey Billy are you playing online on FullTilt? I downloaded their software, they have one for Mac. I don't use it much, I use VirtualPC and play on Bodog lately. Problem is VPC is slow sometimes.

I'll have to check pokerroom.com, is that the Doyles room? Plus your quote there "A K", hate that hand, almost never win with it.

I'm using a dif computer for the poker so far. When I win enough I'll buy VPC and play off that. The problem is I can only use Paddy Power or Boyle Sports sinc you can deposit in their stores and thus don't need a credit/laser/debit card.

OK, I just played another $5 tourney and decided to take note of my cards. Anything without a comment before it, I folded preflop (sometimes due to raises):

4d / 9s
3h / 7d
4c / 6d - bet out of my big blind.
7h / 9d
10d / 8c
Kd / 8d - connection failed and I automatically folded.
8c / 7d - played (200 units)... hit nothing. 700 lost total.
10h / 7d
4h / Qh - called 300 (on small blind). Hit trip 4s, doubled up
Jh / 9c
Jd / 8c
5d / 9s
8d / 2s
4s / 10h - on big blind, but bet out of hand pre-flop. 600 cost.
4s / 3d - on small blind, forced out via pre-flop raise. 300 cost.
4h / 9d
As / 3h - went all in, 1000 cost. Called by K/Q offsuit. Lost to queens.

A = ace, J = jack, K = king, Q = queen... d = diamond, s = spade, c = club, h = heart.

Imagine a whole night of that. Oh, but I did catch pocket aces 7 times. I one once, split the pot once and lost the other 4 times - all in pre-flop on every occasion.

It was a night of poker that dreams are made of. Bad, bad dreams.

If I had to guess, at least 4 of those 7 pocket rockets were up against more than a single opponent, no?
