No official confirmation yet from Everton.

But several newspapers report that Alan Stubbs will be returning to the Toffees on a free transfer, while Per Kroldrup will be heading back to the Serie A for £3 million (a net loss of £2 million to us).

Interesting move. He could have saved us 2m and just dropped the idiotic clause from the contract offer he gave Stubbsy in the summer though.

BBC has picked up the story, though they say Fiorentina will pay £3.6m for Koldrup.

I'm kind of glad to see Stubbs return - he was our captain, after all. It will be interesting to see if he and Weir can put together the same magic they did last year. I kind of doubt it though.

This deal sucks. We get rid of what potentially could be a great defensive pairing of Yobo and Kroldrup we sell him and get Stubbs http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/1993/banghead3bm.gif

Way to go Moyes.

I just hope to god that when he gets us a striker that hes a good quality one cos this kinda signing shows a great lack of ambition.

You aren't kidding. This is very weak. It seems like we are content to cut our losses for this season and hope that we can somehow squeeze out another 14 points to keep us in the Prem. Not exactly energetic management.

Moyes has done very poorly in the transfer market; specifically the inability to interest good players, as well as simply poor judgement on those he has brought in.

<ramble/rant on>

Evertonians....what a desperate lot we are. Stubbs...FFS. This is a pathetic move by Moyes. Who's next Unsworth? Radzinski? Campbell? Hey maybe we could coax Preki to come back.

I'm gonna be at the Globe at 6:30 tomorrow morning...to watch us more than likely get beat by Henry single handedly turning over our "spectacular" backline of Hibbert Weir Stubbs and Ferrari or Valente or who ever we've got back there. Hey Naysmith's fit, let's throw him back there and see if he can stop the mighty Arsenal.

I'm so terribly frustrated by Everton right now. Before the transfer window we needed ONE striker and ONE center back. Now we need TWO strikers and TWO defenders (sorry, the Stubbs signing doesn't count...merely a way to plaster over the cracks). What kind of management is that. Seriously!

No ambition. We're clearly content on "staying up". David Moyes has now morphed into Walter Smith. I fully expect him to start saying in post game interviews how "disappointed"* he is/was.

I give up.

<ramble/rant off>

** After just about every loss, Smith would say how "disappointed" he was over the loss, the refereeing, the pitch, etc. It became his "mantra".

Football365's Mediawatch (http://www.football365.com/features/mediawatch/index.shtml) is always quick to highlight the before-and-after quotes of a player on the move, and our very own Per Kroldrup gets the nod today:

What A Difference A Transfer Window Makes
Per Kroldrup, December 22: "I have been ready and waiting for my chance in the last couple of months but Joseph and David have been doing really well. I am still waiting and hopefully my chance will come."

Per Kroldrup, January 19: "I would like to return to Italy and now there is no way back. I don't really feel I have had the chance to prove my worth."

I am not really sure what the deal was with this guy; maybe somebody can help me with the post-mortem.

I have heard that he was having trouble adjusting to living in England, but have heard others say he was just not up to the EPL. Frankly, he played so little I think I only saw him play once. If the former was really an issue, than this quote sucks and is deserving of ridicule. However, if the former wasn't the issue, I have to say that I agree with the quote. Moyes had a lot of opportunity to play the guy after he was healthy, and virtually never did. If he didn't have the confidence in him why did he buy him in the first place?

This just makes me mad. It's bad management and bad business.

Well we have money for a striker now and a player who is a fan favorite.

That being said, I'm still bitterly disappointed.

hey, once Andy V is healthy again, we'll have signed another new player!!!!! see, signing players is easy if you just use the injury report... Someday we will also get to sign James Vaughan....off of the injured list..

And if only it worked in reverse, we might be as rich a club as Chelsea! Just Big Dunc's back problems alone would have netted us millions, all the times we had to "sell" him to the injured list...

I'm surprised Alan Stubbs, a 34 year old Scotrtish defender isn't as good as Per Kroldrup who helped Udinese to the CL,and Udinese's defence is so leaky since he left. And, why get rid of a player who has been injured almost all season? But heyho, I'm sure Stubbs MUST be better than Kroldrup as MUST Weir, after all, Moyes said so!

alo I dont know was all the fuss about!
Remember whe everyone was clamouring for Per a few weeks back and DM said that he is not ready, but still gave in from all the pressure?
I think that he told the board that lets get rid of him asap for as much as possible.

Stubs got us to fourth place so cant be all that bad to fill in for the rest of the year as cover to Yobo and Ferari/Wier.

And now the dosh may be available for a striker.

Stubbs wasnt welcomed by the fans on saturday. The way he tried to drag the club through the mud when he lfet has still left a bitter taste in fans mouths like myself.

The sale of Kroldrup was stupid we sign him for 5m sell him for 3.6m.Now remember were still heavily in debt, we carnt afford to be seloling players so soon for a loss. Dosent make good business sense.

With whats gone on in the summer with who he brought in and how much hes spent and more to the point how much he dithered and missed out on lots of players fans are now questioning him in the transfer market. I would like to see a director of football put in charge of getting the players because for me Moyes has lost my faith in being able to bring in the more expensive players.

It never really made sense to me why the manager does the buying anyway. They've got enough to worry about making the team play the way he wants.

But that's probably just my American sports influence showing.

Usually because the manager wants to bring in his own players he likes. He may have a style of football but the director of football might bring the wrong players in.

They wanna feel in total control of the football side. It was the reason why Redknap left Pompey in the first place.

Makes sense on one hand, I suppose. Unless you've got someone like Moyes. :D

Better to sell him for £3.5m and cut your losses than keep hold of a player Moyes clearly doesn't rate for one reason or another.

With hindsight, we shouldn't have ever bought him.
