If Philly got an MLS team...
a) what would be your pick for team name
b) where would you have them play
c)who would be the first player you would want them to get(be realistic)

Questions that are asked quite frequently, no one really knows. But we sure argue about it alot...

I'd name them the Independents. They'd play in the Lincoln Financial Field (?). First player? Ben Olsen, if possible. He's from the area. Colors? Ideally red and blue...but, those colors are over used.

I like to see some more green or orange out there.
As for where and what, you decide.

My vote for the kit is an Aston Villa-esqe / old school Philadelphia Phillies-esqe Maroon and a light blue (tar heel or sky blue?). ANYTHING but another red or blue dominated team...hopefully we're done with that.
I'd like to see a purple team, an orange team (looks like we MIGHT be getting that in Houston)...there are lots of options still left.

My first choice would be a shirt modeled on the Philly flag, light blue with a thick yellow vertical stripe running up the middle. I imagine it looking similar to Ajax's except with different colors.
Second choice for colors would be green, since no-one in MLS wears it and because you know half the people that show up to any given game are going to be wearing Eagles gear anyway.
The absolute LAST thing I want to see, anywhere in the league but particularly in Philly, is purple...we don't need to give the "soccer is gay" crowd any more ammo, and do you really see people in Philly (or most US cities) wearing a purple jersey around town (yeah people in Minnesota wear Vikings gear, but that's COMPLETELY different)?? Besides, aside from Fiorentina (who I believe are playing in Serie C now because their club fell apart due to economic corruption, not neccesarily someone we want to emulate) I can't really think of a major club or national team anywhere in the world that wears purple anyway.

I also agree with you about green being a nice color since it's not used in the league and its congruity with the Eagles; and I also agree with you that purple would be a bad idea.

A: Wouldn't care, I'd own season tickets anyway.
B: Fox Chase playground :D ok, maybe not, but its close.
C: Chris Albright, he's from Philly proper, Jeff Parke, or if he decided he wanted to come back, Bobby Convey
D: Yellow or a Green home kit, black shorts. Black away kit with either yellow/green in it, white shorts.

I like the idea of having the colors blue and gold because there is a logical reason connecting those colors to the city. back in the day the Eagles had a blue and gold jersey...I think it was their first one.
I also like your idea of it being modeled after Ajax, with the city crest on it and maybe "Philly" or (hell spell it out entirely) "philadelphia" written vertically on one side of the middle stripe

my first player choice would be bobby convey. next chris albright, then ben olsen.
havent heard any suggestions for black and white. I think a black shirt with a wide white stripe through the middle would be nice. The crest could be in the center of the shirt. white shorts, black socks. their away kit could be white with black shorts and black socks.

im not a big fan of black...it seems like its the trendy color to go with in sports today, plus one of philly's future rivals already has it...DC United

d) what would the kit look like
a) Quaker City Brotherhood (QCB) or Philadelphia Brotherhood
b) In Port Richmond on the Delaware River Side of I-95 (north of where they are proposing to put the slot parlors)
c) I think it would be great to start a franchise with a Philly Guy like Convey
d) I like the colors stated above, light blue & yellow/gold or dark orange & white.

Green needs to be implemented as the primary color. No team has that, and everyone is tapping blue, red, and too much. No, not Eagles green...

a) FC Philadelphia, or something like that. It sounds nice.
b) anywhere. Sources within the City sports scene say the Spectrum will cease to exist in 2008. How about the sports complex?
c) Claudio Reyna. He'll want to come back to end his career.
d) I like the city flag/coat of arms concept.

Really? Hadn't heard that the city wanted to condemn the Spectrum a second time. Unless someone has a rather large wad of money I really don't see Snyder and Comcast parting with it. And there's too much booked at both arenas for it to roll into the Wachovia Center (unless the Sixers fold).

The Spectrum is going no where. It RAKES in money. The thing is always booked. It's a bought an paid for building. All the money is brings in goes straight to Snyders pocket.

That's just it. It makes money, and it's privately owned. It doesn't go anywhere until Mr. Snyder can maker more money with something else in its place.
