We got a good keeper, some great central defenders, 3 decent LB’s (Cole/Bridge/Baines), plenty of decent midfield players – a little weak in the DM position, but we should have the skill for tournament football in the middle of the park and we have strikers like Rooney, Defoe and Owen who are pretty decent – okay so they are too short, but give me pace over height anyday any day.

The squad more or less picks itself regardless of SGE – Are there really any players out there that are being totally over-looked? Not really.

So. Right-Back. Who we got? I’m just not happy with Neville at RB. He hasn’t got the pace.

Right backs suggestions:

Right backs suggestions:

If it's pace you're after, I suggest Mark Lewis-Francis.

If you want a good right-back, there is no Englishman close to Gary Neville right now. Sorry, but there it is.

Carragher is a realistic option, Neville aint solid in my ever so umble opinion hence the fact we need a better option at RB and Young just aint good enough. We're talking 'bout players good enough to win the World cup.

Options? Options with pace. Possibilities. Thinking out of the box even. Imaginative suggestions.

Hargreaves at RB?

Rio Ferdinand at RB any takers? With Sol and Terry in the middle?

Ledley King at RB?

Gary Nevillle is a very underrated player, defensively strong and one of the best crossing fullbacks around. I don't think he's in his best form though.

Young is zhit.

King has filled in at fullback in his career, but it's not his natural position.

I'm sure Hargreaves would get exposed defensively by any top side.

Carragher is solid but will offer nothing going forward. He is the one that would get chosen.

Clearly Gary Neville. Don't let your club loyalty cloud your judgement.

Gary Neville's a great right-back.

I've never been a big Gary Neville fan but he is clearly the best choice we have at the moment. Although not the quickest or most skilful, his defending has improved immensely with experience and, compared to him, all our other options at right-back look noticeably suspect defensively. And on top of that he usually doesn't waste possession and can put in decent crosses.

Ideally I'd like a right-sided Ashley Cole, but as we don't have a player like that, G.Neville is the best choice.

Young? At the moment he's just a poorer version of Neville.

Carragher spent most of his career being a distinctly mediocre full-back. It was only when he moved to centre-back that he started to truly look England quality. Moving him back to full-back, except in an emergency, would be ridiculous.

In fact anyone who doesn't play there regularly for his club would be ridiculous. Neville is not so bad that someone who has little or no experience in that position could do better.

Hate saying it, but it's got to be Neville. Carra if he's injured but only then.

Clearly for you, but not for me. Never rated Neville and I never will.

btw- how is club loyalty clouding judgement? What a bizzare thing to say. . .

I know England fans in general are split about about Gary Neville. But for those who don't rate him, you're just wrong.

If G.Nev is our weak link in the summer, we'll have won the cup. He won't let us down.

Does nobody think that Beckham could do a job at RB, with Wright-Phillips on the wing. Obviously not as first choice, but if cover was short for the world cup.

If we are going to start capping Frenchmen, I'd suggest that Pascal Chimbonda is probably not the place to start.

That sounds like a terrible idea.

Gary Neville is the only choice.

The choice is blatantly obvious, and it is Gary Neville. He is one of them ost experienced players on the team (both in terms of international caps and achievements/caps at club level). He is very consistent, gets his job done, works very hard, is solid defensively, and is a very good deep crosser. 80+ caps, and has he ever let you down in a big way? Why somebody would even bring this up is beyond me, Neville has been the best RB over the course of the Premiership since its inception, and amongst the top 2-3 RBs year in, year out.

As for the future, young Simpson in the Man United youth ranks is certainly one to look out for, many htink he could be taking Neville's place 2(ish) years down the line. He won't be a realistic option for England for a good 3 or so years, but he has been called very similar (both in terms of ability and playing style) to Ashley Cole at his age.
