“voting from a list of candidates. All specialised media (press, radio, television) plus a panel of experts make up the selection jury”

In all honesty, Cech has looked shaky at times this season.

Buffon has been out the entire first half of the season.
Not to mention Chelsea's backline would make any goalie look good (what the hell? stick Barthez back there and there wouldn't be a damn difference).

a few times maybe - the soft goal at the bridge against fulham was probably the worst. but still, I think his errors are magnified due to them occuring so irregularly.

eh ? are you for real ? Juve has let in just 10 goals in 19 games this season -far less than any other side in Serie A.

I dunno - he's looked shaky in a few games this season. Hardly a liability, but short of his form against Barca last season.

hmm. maybe we differ in our definition of "shaky" ;)
Shaky for me is Lehman / Wright and/or any cross into Reina :D

Two things.
1. Pssst..Petr, you're in England son, catch the bloody ball.
2. Pssst..Petr, you're a pretty big geezer, charge through them to punch it away, when it's too crowded to catch it cleanly.

opening line of article..."Petr Cech was the best goalkeeper in the world in 2005" that includes most of last season...2005
and yes we have a great defence, but he is still the best gk in the world and easily better than buffoon, who also has a decent defence in front of him...
and yes he could be better, but he is still the best in the world

Cech is not easily better than Buffon. Really, had Buffon not been
injured for the past months, he would have won the award for the
third year straight. No disrespect to Cech, but Buffon is something
of a freak of nature.

agreed, buffon in form is better than cech, cech is good but he makes too many mistakes in important matches, i.e. liverpool in the semis, man u this year, that's all that comes to mind right now but if you want I could rewatch some goals scored on Chelsea.
