I have--for two whole summers in Bulgaria. I loved my little Trabbie, and I wish I'd bought one of my own while I was there. They're an environmental nightmare, but tough as nails--perfect for the narrow potholed streets of Sofia.

I've only seen them dangled from the overindulgent stage setup of a U2 show.

Still see them around....i am working on funding ethanol factories here. When we get going, one of our plans for PR is ti convert a Trabant and a Wartburg to run on ethanol!

AWESOME! Maybe it isn't too late to buy one after all. I'd feel a lot better driving one without the constant trail of black smoke trailing behind.

All the time I was in Hungary, I never actually rode in a Trabant. Wartburg, yes, but a Trabi, no. However, I did see a few Trabis roll over either in accidents or when taking a corner just a wee bit too fast.

Sounds like a great idea to convert them. But will they still have that awesome two-stroke purr? ;)

From what I understand they still will have that "purr"

In any case, it will be nothing more than a pr stunt....we are much more interested in having flexi fuel cars brought in

I'll probably start in the next day or two a thread dedicated to biofuels. Will be very curious to hear the opinions of motorheads concerning developments in this industry

I have rode in one once, it was a military version though, made of metall instead of plastic ;-)
