Frei is a striker
BvM was in Doppelpass today .. he said the de Jong Talks could be finalized this or next week
Two BVB Fans in Texas .. god help us ... if anyone of them gets president of the USA ... they include Schlake and BayScum to the Axis of evil and declare war on those :)
*just kidding*
yeah AND only 45 minutes away! (2 hours depending upon where footyfan lives in SA)
And only if I can add Liverpool to the Axis I'm fine with taking requests!
Would be fantastic if De Jong gets into a Dortmund shirt.

Thats ridiculous....even more ridiculous than either Kluivert or Hasselbaink joining us IMO.
Kluivert joining you doesn't sound ridiculous. The guy couldn't be able to score in the Regionalliga, so he perfectly fits the Hertha striker mode. :p j/k :D

There are plans to make a surprise move and sign De Jong this winter already. It seems Ajax is willing to let him go. Still the chase is on and other clubs are trying to sign him too.

That means there are at least five of us in Texas who I know of. I think I'm the only one in SA, but there are two of you in Austin.
Austin is where Drew lives too. I know of two more in the Dallas area. I believe both are on our list.
Don't remember their names at the moment.
I'm sure there are more BVB fans here, but there's no way I'm going out searching for them.
BTW "HeyaBVB", "24" AFTER "Stargate" and "Atlantis"? The words "Major Geek" come to mind! LOL!! :D
"24" is the best show on TV man! ;)

Uh oh........
De Jong would get a hell of a lot more exposure and make a hell of a lot more money at Spurs, who also have their own Dutch manager. :(

Spurs Make Late De Jong Move
Tottenham have entered the race to sign Dutch international Nigel de Jong and look set to clinch his signature from under the noses of a host of clubs.
De Jong, who is out of contract at Ajax in the summer, has already confirmed his intention to quit the Dutch capital.
The 21-year-old has held talks with a number of clubs including West Ham, Celtic and Sevilla - but it was Germans Borussia Dortmund who looked to have won the race for his signature after already landing team-mate Steven Pienaar.
However, Spurs - whose commitment to snap-up the world's best young talent, has now seen them make a late move.
Tottenham coach Martin Jol will be no stranger to de Jong's talents and he looks to have given the green-light to move for the midfielder - who is also at home in defence.
Dutch sources are claiming that de Jong and his advisors are currently in London after flying in from Amsterdam on Monday.
It is not known whether Spurs are in talks over a mere pre-contract with a view to a Bosman transfer - or a permanent deal, with Ajax likely to accept a nominal fee for a player who can leave the club for nothing in the summer.

Is there a bar in San Marcos (that's halfway, right?) that shows the FSC games? If so maybe the other Austinites and yourself could drive and catch the game.
As for de Jong...it would be nice to have him, but we don't absolutely need him. Still, I'd hate to see him go to Totts...
As for Frei...He's not worth the massive amount Rennes are looking for, I agree, but he IS a good option up front. He's young and more than just a project. He could come in and do well...
As for our winter break form...given recent history and all of that...I still don't care...;)
Hope we'll get to see Pienaar at least come on as a sub against Wolfsburg...

I could have sworn I responded to this last night, but I guess I had connection problems.
Trying to re-create my responses below.
That means there are at least five of us in Texas who I know of. I think I'm the only one in SA, but there are two of you in Austin.

Every now and then, Drew and I will meet for a match there in Austin. It's too late to meet for this match, but maybe the next time BVB are on, we can meet. Or, I'll let you know when we meet. Then again, are you on our list? That way, you would see us planning the meeting.
As for de Jong...it would be nice to have him, but we don't absolutely need him. Still, I'd hate to see him go to Totts...
Well, he still wants to go to a team where he's guaranteed a starting spot and Tottenham can certainly guarantee that along with more money and more media exposure.
They have a Dutch coach and Edgar Davids there too.
I think we have these five things going for us:
1) Pienaar joining us. 'Nuff said.
2) Rabid fans whose loyalty is reknowned throughout Europe and a stadium that holds 83,000. On the fan front, Spurs can't touch us.
3) Successes de Jong can actually remember. He was a kid when we won the CL in '97, but we also have the last Dutch coach to win a major European trophy in BvM when he beat US with Feyenoord for the 2002 UEFA Cup.
4) Being closer to home: It's a fairly short drive to the Dutch border from Dortmund. An even shorter plane or helicopter flight. He can go home whenever he likes.
5) A team with younger talent and less pressure.
As for Frei...He's not worth the massive amount Rennes are looking for, I agree, but he IS a good option up front. He's young and more than just a project. He could come in and do well...
Just like Auer or Rafael could come in and do well for a hell of a lot less money.
As for our winter break form...given recent history and all of that...I still don't care...;)
I do. I can't just shove it aside like it means nothing.
Hope we'll get to see Pienaar at least come on as a sub against Wolfsburg...
"jonam" has already corrected you here. I will say it would be nice to get a surprise de Jong signing and have him come on as a sub though! LOL!! :D

Is Josip Simunic out of our reach? His contract is expiring too. I'm guessing he would like to go to a much bigger club like Milan or something like that. Is that the reason that no one has talked about him?

If he doesn't go to Italy, he will most likely stay with us.

Another reason is that we've got a young defender coming in from Braunschweig next season on a free transfer. Martin Amedick. Zorc and the managment seem to be very high on him.
Then again, they were "high" on Degen too, weren't they???? :o

Not to pile on with the subforum thing, but I'm glad to have the BVB forum back. I've definitely become a fan over the past year or so, and though I often don't have much to contribute, I enjoy reading and Keith and Manoj, among others, do a good job of that. It's not a huge community in here, but its a good one.
Hopefully the de Jong move goes through, he'd be another quality, young addition to the squad. Don't know anything about Amedick (except that I laugh a little when I say his name in my head...), but it seems that youth is the policy for BVB right now--and its a good one to have.
